To run a YouTube lofi radio stream from OBS on Windows 11, prepare an eligible YouTube channel, add your visual and rights-cleared music as OBS sources, connect OBS to YouTube Live, and test the complete stream before relying on it. A 24-hour broadcast is not guaranteed to stay uninterrupted on a home PC, and YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays. The steps below cover setup, encoder settings, testing, copyright, and ways to plan for continuous operation.
Before you start: check channel access and prepare the content
Confirm the channel can stream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person live streaming must be at least 16. Check readiness in YouTube Studio before configuring OBS; YouTube’s older OBS guide mentions activation can take 24 hours, but the current status shown for your channel is the useful check. Collect the visual and music
Prepare the image or animation you want viewers to see and the audio source for the lofi music. For music, confirm the permission explicitly covers live streaming on YouTube and any replay, the territories where viewers may watch, and monetization if you plan to monetize. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; detection can lead to a warning, interruption, or termination. A license does not always prevent an interruption: a rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright-safe music and its Terms of Service.

Install OBS and build the lofi scene
Install OBS Studio
Download OBS Studio from the official OBS Project site and use the OBS Quick Start Guide for its current setup basics. This workflow is for Windows 11; the available guidance does not establish a special Windows 11-only OBS configuration.
Create a scene with visible and audible sources

In OBS, create a scene for the broadcast. A scene is the composition YouTube will receive.

Add the intended visual source, such as a static image or a subtle animation. Arrange and preview it in the OBS canvas so it fills the output as intended.

Add your music source and check the audio mixer while it plays. Confirm the expected source is active, the meter responds, and the audio is not muted or clipping.

Let the scene run locally long enough to check that the visual and audio continue as intended. Do not rely on an undocumented plugin or looping method for a 24-hour broadcast; verify any source-specific behavior in your installed OBS version before going live.
For a first stream, keep the scene simple. Every additional source or effect adds another potential point of failure to monitor.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live

In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream setup for your channel and create or select the broadcast. Follow the current live-control-room prompts for the stream’s title, visibility, and other details.

In OBS, open the stream settings and select the available YouTube service or integration. If you use a stream key, copy it from YouTube Studio into OBS using YouTube’s current instructions.

Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.

Start the stream from OBS, then confirm YouTube Studio is receiving the signal and that its preview, audio, and stream-health information look right before treating the broadcast as live to viewers.
Interface labels can change, so follow the labels currently shown by OBS and YouTube Studio rather than relying on old screenshots. YouTube recommends encrypted RTMPS ingestion; the encoder settings below include its current guidance.
Choose resolution, bitrate, and encoder settings
Use settings supported by both your connection and encoding hardware. YouTube’s published H.264 figures are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular PC or internet connection can sustain a broadcast. For a mostly static lofi scene, 720p30 can be a practical starting point; choose 1080p30 if you have enough stable upload capacity and want more detail.

These values are from YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance. In OBS, use the relevant output and stream controls to match the chosen format and bitrate to YouTube’s requirements. YouTube’s general settings call for CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (never more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. It supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video, up to 60 frames per second, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion.

Use 30 fps unless the content genuinely benefits from 60 fps; a largely still image usually does not need extra motion smoothness.

Measure stable upload capacity and leave headroom above the selected video bitrate for audio and network variation. A speed test is a starting point, not proof of continuous stability.

If the stream drops frames or YouTube reports an unhealthy signal, lower the bitrate or output resolution and test again rather than setting the connection at its limit.
Test the whole stream before leaving it unattended

Preview the OBS scene and check that the picture fills the frame and the intended music source is audible at a steady level.

Run a test broadcast with audio and movement similar to the planned content. YouTube specifically advises testing before starting a live stream.

In YouTube Studio, check stream health and messages while the test is running. Resolve warnings before announcing or relying on the stream.

Confirm the source continues playing, the PC remains responsive, and the internet connection has stable upload capacity over a meaningful test period.
A successful short test cannot prove a Windows PC will stay online for days. Continuous operation depends on power, internet service, Windows sleep and update behavior, OBS remaining active, source availability, and a recovery plan if any of them fail. Monitor the system and test recovery instead of assuming an unattended desktop is self-healing.

Plan for uptime and YouTube replays
A 24-hour broadcast is not necessarily a 24-hour archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replay availability matters, make a local recording and plan enough storage, or schedule shorter broadcasts while accounting for the interruption viewers may see between sessions. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup; an external drive is one possible storage choice, not a way to keep OBS online. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Keep the desktop method maintainable
For a local OBS setup, check power and internet, confirm Windows will not enter sleep during the planned broadcast, and decide how you will notice a dropped stream or failed audio source. Operating-system controls can vary by Windows version and device, so verify the current settings on your PC. Do not treat OBS running on a desktop as a guarantee of unattended uptime.
