To run recorded math lessons as a continuous YouTube live stream, enable live streaming on your verified channel, create a stream in YouTube Studio, and send your playlist through an encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Preview and test the feed before relying on it, arrange monitoring and restarts, and use only material you have the rights to stream. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours; its guidance does not establish that one stream can run indefinitely.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
- Your channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, according to YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your intended launch.
- YouTube says streamers must be at least 16 years old.
- Prepare the recorded lessons and any accompanying slides, diagrams, music, or other assets. Confirm that you have the necessary rights to use each item in a live stream.
Choose how to send the recorded lessons
YouTube supports streams sent by an encoder, which can be software on a computer or dedicated hardware. For a recorded lesson channel, choose a workflow that can play the videos in sequence or loop them and that you can monitor and restart. Dedicated hardware is not a YouTube requirement; whether it is useful depends on your existing production setup and whether you need external audio or video hardware.
YouTube’s instructions do not identify one universally best encoder for this use. Compare options by how they handle your playlist, how much setup and monitoring they require, whether they need a computer to remain running, and how you will recover from a playback or connection interruption.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live. In Live Control Room, create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule one. Scheduling creates an upcoming watch page that you can share; viewers can also set reminders.
- Set up the stream details. Enter a clear title and description for the math lessons, choose the audience setting that accurately applies, and configure visibility and scheduling as needed. Review the stream details before sharing the watch page.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, obtain the YouTube server URL and stream key. In your encoder’s stream settings, paste them into the matching server/URL and key fields. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this connection step.
- Keep the key private. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not show it in a screen recording, share it publicly, or include it in lesson materials. Reset it in YouTube Studio if you believe it has been exposed.
- Start the encoder and preview. Start playback of the recorded lesson feed, then check Live Control Room for incoming video and audio. Do not assume the stream is ready just because the encoder says it is connected.
- Launch and check the viewer experience. Confirm that the watch page works from your channel and on the watch page itself, and check it on a mobile device. Verify that lesson audio is audible and that writing, equations, and diagrams remain readable at the displayed size.
Test the stream and plan for interruptions
Before announcing a continuous schedule, run a test long enough to check video playback, audio, playlist transitions, and the network under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends preparing ahead, checking the preview, monitoring audio and video, and testing backup-encoder failover where applicable. Its streaming tips also warn that your total streaming bitrate cannot exceed the upload bandwidth available.

- Leave upload headroom. Do not plan to use all available upload capacity for the stream. Other devices and network activity can compete for bandwidth and cause instability.
- Check the whole lesson path. Confirm that the encoder advances through the intended videos, that audio does not disappear between files, and that the playlist behaves as expected at its end.
- Assign monitoring. Decide who will check Live Control Room and the public watch page, how often they will check, and who can restart the encoder or playback if it stops. A continuous schedule needs a recovery plan, not just a successful first launch.
- Test failover if you use it. If your setup includes a backup encoder or connection, test the handoff before depending on it. YouTube’s recommendation to test failover applies where such a backup is part of the setup.
Plan around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That can make a completed lesson stream available for replay, but the guidance does not confirm that a single live stream can run indefinitely. Do not promise an endless single broadcast based on the archive rule. If you need a 24/7 channel, establish a suitable continuous-playout and restart workflow, and verify how it behaves for your setup.
Clear rights for lessons and supporting material
Use original or properly licensed lesson recordings, music, images, and other third-party material. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. A match may trigger a warning, replacement with a placeholder, interruption, or termination.

A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube notes that content may need to be allowlisted by the rights owner for the channel. If you rely on licensed material, confirm that the rights holder has authorized the channel appropriately before going live. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and allowlisting channels.

Eligible channels may be able to use live ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships. Eligibility differs by feature, and monetization remains subject to the relevant channel and content policies. Check YouTube’s current YouTube Partner Program requirements and the applicable feature eligibility before planning revenue around a live lesson channel.
