To run an Indian music channel for Smart TV viewers, prepare a horizontal audio-and-visual feed, send it to YouTube through an encoder, and secure permission for both each recording and its underlying composition. YouTube Live can be watched on TVs, but YouTube does not promise an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. For a practical setup, plan shorter scheduled sessions, test the TV viewing experience, and build a recovery plan before launch.
What you need to plan before going live
A 24/7 music channel is two connected operations: keeping a stream going and having the right to broadcast every item in it. An encoder sends the feed to YouTube; it does not provide music or artwork rights. YouTube’s Live Control Room supports creating or scheduling streams and monitoring the incoming feed, but the platform guidance is not a guarantee of continuous service.
- Channel readiness: verify the channel and check for any live-streaming restriction that would prevent the planned broadcast. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streaming at least 24 hours before the first planned stream.
- Feed: use an encoder, with cleared music audio and a visual you are authorized to use.
- Rights: confirm permissions for the sound recording and the underlying musical work, plus any artwork or video shown with it.
- Operations: decide who or what will detect a failure, check the stream, and restore service.
YouTube for Artists says more fans are watching music moments on TV screens and describes horizontal streams as the traditional format. Prepare a horizontal presentation, then test it on the actual YouTube app and TV experience your audience will use. Keep text legible from across a room; channel identity and current-program information can help, but are presentation choices rather than YouTube requirements.

- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction that blocks the intended launch. Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio ahead of time; YouTube for Artists recommends allowing at least 24 hours before the first planned stream.
- Create or schedule a broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open the Live Control Room. Configure the stream and choose whether it will be public, unlisted, or otherwise restricted while you test.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the encoder’s YouTube settings. Treat the key like a password. If it is exposed, replace or rotate it in Studio before relying on it again.
- Check the incoming preview. Confirm that the picture is horizontal, the intended visual appears, and the audio is present and at an appropriate level. Use settings supported by your chosen encoder and the current Live Control Room; the cited YouTube guidance does not establish a single numeric bitrate or resolution that fits every source and connection.
- Start the broadcast. Once the preview is correct, start the encoder and verify that the stream appears on its YouTube watch page. You can schedule a stream and promote its watch page through the Live Control Room.
YouTube describes both software and standalone hardware encoders. Choose based on your source inputs, supported formats, ability to restart or fail over, local recording workflow, ongoing cost, and whether an operator is available. Neither type clears music rights or guarantees uptime.

Choose stream sessions with the archive limit in mind
For a channel that needs replays, do not assume that a single stream can run indefinitely and still produce a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.

Consecutive sessions mean more scheduling and handoffs to manage, but they make archive planning clearer than relying on one stream that runs beyond the stated limit.

Test the Smart TV viewing path
- Create an unlisted test stream and check its incoming preview in the Live Control Room.
- Open the watch page in the YouTube app on representative Smart TVs. Check that the horizontal image displays as intended and that speech or music is audible at a comfortable level.
- Check the same watch page from the channel and on a phone, and confirm that the intended audience can find or access it.
- Make any changes to the visual, audio mix, or stream setup, then repeat the test before making the channel public.
YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test before a high-investment event and advises coordinating with labels when music is involved. Testing a Smart TV specifically is a practical extra step: TV interfaces and viewing distance can make small text or a poorly framed visual harder to use.
Clear music, artwork, and replay rights
For every track, identify the owner or administrator of the sound recording (the master) and the owner or administrator of the composition. These are separate interests. YouTube’s Music Rights Management guidance describes roles that may include labels, publishers, and collecting societies; the rights arrangement for a particular track depends on its owners and administrators.

- Make a track-level inventory. Record the track and version, recording owner, composition contacts, and any visual material paired with it.
- Obtain permissions for the intended use. Ask whether the permission covers a YouTube livestream, the relevant territories and term, the visual pairing, and any archive or replay. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to secure necessary rights for use on Google services, including applicable territory requirements.
- Coordinate Content ID allowlisting separately. Ask the relevant label, distributor, publisher, or rights owner to add the channel to the appropriate Content ID allowlist when needed. YouTube warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.” An allowlist is not a substitute for a licence.
- Keep evidence. Save written permissions, territory and term details, archive scope, and allowlisting confirmations alongside the track list.
A personal music-service subscription, a purchased download, or a credit to the artist does not by itself establish permission to broadcast a track. The general YouTube guidance does not establish the India-specific rights or collecting-society requirements for an unspecified catalogue. Confirm permissions for the actual repertoire with its rights holders and qualified Indian counsel before launch; do not assume a single blanket licence covers every track or use.
The same review applies to cover art, looping visuals, lyrics, and any other material shown with the music. Use original material you control or obtain permission for the intended broadcast and replay.

Build a continuity and recovery routine
A channel described as 24/7 needs a response to a dead encoder, network failure, power loss, silent audio, or a rights interruption. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend monitoring stream quality, checking local archive files, and testing encoder failover. The following is an operational checklist, not a YouTube-prescribed architecture or a guarantee of uptime:
- Check the encoder output and Live Control Room preview after starting each session.
- Verify that audio and visuals remain present, and open the watch page to confirm the viewer-facing stream.
- Assign an operator or alert recipient to respond if the encoder stops, audio goes silent, or a rights interruption appears.
- Record locally if preserving the program matters, then verify that the resulting file is playable.
- Test any backup encoder or recovery path before depending on it during a live session.
- Keep the stream key private and document who can access it or replace it.
Monetization and launch expectations
YouTube for Artists describes ads, shopping, and Supers as live monetization features subject to eligibility. A continuous schedule does not guarantee eligibility, revenue, or uninterrupted distribution. Confirm the channel’s current eligibility and applicable YouTube policies in Studio before making a business plan around any feature.

YouTube for Artists reported that, on average, over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That is a platform-wide figure for that period; it is not a statistic about Indian audiences, Smart TV viewers, or the expected audience for a particular channel.
