To turn on 5G on a supported OPPO phone, open Settings, go to Mobile Network or the settings for the SIM you use, then enable 5G or select an automatic preferred-network option that includes 5G. Menu names and available choices vary by model, software, carrier, and region. Your phone also needs a compatible 5G model and SIM, an eligible service, and coverage where you are.
Before you change the network setting
A 5G setting alone cannot make an incompatible phone, plan, or SIM connect to 5G. Check these requirements first:
- Phone and regional variant: Confirm that your exact OPPO model supports your carrier’s 5G service and frequencies. OPPO advises checking the phone’s specifications against the provider’s 5G frequencies in its 5G setup guidance.
- Carrier service and location: Your operator must offer 5G for your service, and your current area must have coverage.
- Plan and SIM: Ask your carrier whether your plan and SIM are eligible for 5G and whether the service has been activated.
- Phone setting: The SIM you intend to use must have a 5G-capable network preference enabled, if the option is available.
OPPO’s guidance identifies service, coverage, SIM compatibility and activation, device compatibility, and enabled settings as prerequisites. A “5G” label on a phone does not by itself confirm compatibility with every carrier or regional network.
How to enable 5G on an OPPO phone
- Open the mobile-network settings. Go to Settings > Mobile Network, or look for SIM card & mobile data and open the SIM entry you use. Labels and paths differ among OPPO models and software versions. OPPO’s general route is Settings > Mobile Network; StarHub’s carrier-specific OPPO instructions use Settings > SIM card & mobile data > SIM 1 or SIM 2 > Preferred Network Type.
- Choose the SIM’s preferred network type. Select an option that includes 5G, or enable the available 5G preference. One option shown in StarHub’s instructions is 5G/4G/3G/2G (Auto). This is an example from that carrier’s guide, not a guaranteed label on every OPPO phone.
- Let the phone select the available network. For ordinary use, the automatic option that includes 5G is a sensible starting choice when offered and supported by your carrier. Follow your operator’s instructions if its recommended setting differs.
- Check again after changing the setting. If 5G still does not appear, use the checks below rather than assuming that an advanced network mode must be enabled.
Because OPPO notes that settings paths can differ, there is no single menu route that applies to every model. See OPPO’s general setup guidance and StarHub’s OPPO-specific instructions for the paths they document.

Which OPPO network mode should you choose?
Automatic mode that includes 5G
Choose the phone’s or carrier’s automatic preferred-network option that includes 5G for routine use, if available. It lets the phone use the network choices exposed for that device and carrier, rather than locking it to 5G alone. The exact options vary, so check the wording shown for your selected SIM.
SA and NSA choices
SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-standalone) are different 5G deployment modes. They are not universal settings that every OPPO owner needs to choose. OPPO discusses NSA+SA or SA only for supported devices in a VoNR troubleshooting context. Its guidance says to check whether the carrier offers VoNR and whether the SIM is activated for that service. VoNR concerns voice service; it is not a prerequisite to turning on ordinary 5G data. See OPPO’s VoNR troubleshooting guidance.

Do not assume you need Developer Options, an SA-only selection, or a 5G-only mode to get 5G. If an advanced choice is visible and you are unsure whether your carrier requires it, ask the operator before changing it.

The available guidance does not establish that one network mode is universally faster, has better coverage, or saves more battery across OPPO phones and carriers. Those outcomes depend on the exact device and network; use the carrier-supported automatic setting unless your operator gives model-specific instructions.

If 5G does not appear
Work through these checks in order:
- Verify the exact phone variant. Compare its specifications with the 5G frequencies and service used by your carrier. A model name alone may not identify regional compatibility.
- Check coverage and service eligibility. Ask your carrier whether 5G is available at your location and included or enabled for your service.
- Confirm the SIM and account. Check whether the SIM is compatible and activated for 5G, and whether any plan or account requirement remains.
- Check the selected SIM’s network preference. Return to the mobile-network settings and make sure you changed the setting for the SIM carrying your service. Select the available 5G or automatic option that includes 5G.
- Check for a recommended software update. Install an update if OPPO or your carrier recommends it for your model or service. If the 5G option is missing, confirm support for the exact model and SIM with both.
- Treat VoNR as a separate issue. If the problem is specifically calling over 5G, ask whether your carrier offers VoNR and whether your SIM is activated for it. OPPO’s VoNR guidance addresses that service, not a general requirement for 5G data.
If these checks do not resolve the issue, contact your carrier with your exact OPPO model, software version, SIM type, and location. OPPO’s setup guidance notes that setting paths can vary between phones, so a missing menu label alone does not establish the cause.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why compatibility depends on model, carrier, and software
5G support can depend on the OPPO model and regional variant, the carrier’s frequencies and service, and software support. For example, OPPO India’s November 2022 announcement about Jio 5G SA described software updates for named OPPO models in India. It is historical, geographically limited information—not a current compatibility list for other OPPO phones, carriers, or regions.
