There is no universal screenshot API parameter for device scale. With Chrome DevTools Protocol (CDP), set deviceScaleFactor through Page.setDeviceMetricsOverride before capturing. In Playwright, set the factor on the browser context and choose the screenshot output mapping separately with scale. For a hosted API, use that provider’s documented field rather than assuming either name applies.
Set the device scale factor with Chrome DevTools Protocol
CDP’s Page.setDeviceMetricsOverride emulates screen dimensions and related CSS media-query results. Supply width, height, mobile, and deviceScaleFactor before calling Page.captureScreenshot. A factor of 0 disables the override. See the CDP Page protocol reference.

The override must be applied to the page session before capture. In this example, the emulated viewport is 1280 by 800 CSS pixels, and the scale factor is 2.
Configure device scale and screenshot output separately in Playwright
Playwright has two settings that serve different purposes. Set deviceScaleFactor in the browser context to emulate a device pixel ratio. Then set the screenshot option scale to select how CSS pixels map to output pixels. The page screenshot option accepts "css" or "device"; the browser context option controls the emulated factor.

Do not treat the context’s deviceScaleFactor as a substitute for the screenshot’s scale: one emulates the device, the other determines output pixel mapping.
What about Puppeteer?
Puppeteer’s documented screenshot options cover capture behavior such as full-page capture, clipping, image format, and quality. Its ScreenshotOptions reference does not list deviceScaleFactor as a screenshot property. Configure device emulation through the relevant page or browser API for your Puppeteer version; do not add deviceScaleFactor to the screenshot call based on its name alone.

For a hosted screenshot API, check its own request reference
A service may expose a device scale, device pixel ratio, viewport-emulation setting, or output-image scale under its own field name—or may not expose one. The title alone does not identify a provider or establish its parameter, accepted values, or default. Check that service’s current API documentation and distinguish emulated device density from the pixel dimensions of the returned image.
When evaluating the setting, decide whether you want one output pixel per CSS pixel or per device pixel, then check the resulting image dimensions and file size. High-DPI output can preserve device-pixel rendering at the cost of a larger image; providers may implement these controls differently.

Does CDP accept a fractional device scale factor?
CDP documents the parameter as a number. Check the protocol reference and the behavior of your emulation target for the values you intend to use.

Does a larger device scale factor always mean a better screenshot?
Not necessarily. It can increase output dimensions and file size; choose based on the pixel mapping and fidelity you need.
