To set the order of videos in a YouTube playlist, open YouTube Studio on a computer, go to Content → Playlists, choose the playlist’s menu, select Edit on YouTube, then drag videos into the sequence you want. That sets the playlist’s saved order—not a priority score or, by itself, the schedule for an externally encoded 24/7 live broadcast. YouTube documents playlist ordering and live streaming as separate workflows.
What “playlist priority” means on YouTube
YouTube’s playlist tools let you choose an arrangement and manually move videos up or down. The help documentation does not describe a weighted priority setting, rotation score, or rule that makes a track near the top play more often. Treat the order as the sequence for playlist playback, not a way to assign broadcast priority. YouTube’s playlist guide explains the editing controls.
If you are programming music, the sequence itself is an editorial choice. You might open with the intended mood, group related tracks into blocks, or shape an energy arc. Those are programming approaches, not YouTube requirements or guaranteed audience outcomes.
Reorder the saved playlist
- Open YouTube Studio on a desktop browser. Sign in to the channel that owns the playlist.
- Go to Content → Playlists. Locate the playlist you want to change.
- Open its menu and choose Edit on YouTube. This takes you to the playlist editor.
- Drag videos into position. Move each item up or down until the saved sequence matches your intended order, then check the playlist page to confirm it.
When creating a playlist in Studio, YouTube’s documented flow also lets you choose how videos will be arranged before adding videos and creating the playlist. See the Studio playlist instructions for the current controls.

Saved order, viewer order, and looping are different
A listener can temporarily reorder videos in the playlist panel on the watch page. That changes the listener’s playback experience; it is not evidence that the channel owner’s saved playlist order has changed. YouTube’s playlist help also says reordering is unavailable for playlists containing only YouTube Shorts.
YouTube also provides a viewer-side loop control for repeating a playlist during playback on YouTube. That is not a control for scheduling or sequencing an externally supplied live stream. The playlist looping guide covers that playback feature.

A YouTube playlist does not set an encoder’s 24/7 queue
For an encoder-based live stream, YouTube receives a live feed: you put YouTube’s server URL and stream key into encoder software or hardware, send the feed, check the preview, and go live in Live Control Room. YouTube describes an encoder as converting video into a digital format for streaming. The playlist pages do not document a connection that turns a saved playlist order into the active schedule of an external encoder or playout tool. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

That means changing a public playlist should not be assumed to reorder, interrupt, or refresh a separate live playout queue. The behavior depends on the encoder or playout system. Check that product’s instructions for queue management, looping, scheduling, and whether edits to a source playlist affect an active feed.

Keep the live feed reliable and check its archive limits
Playlist organization and live delivery are separate tasks. For a live broadcast, YouTube’s guidance covers stream protocol, latency, and auto-start or auto-stop settings; it also advises testing the feed and monitoring stream health. Use YouTube’s live settings guide and encoder settings guide for the relevant controls.
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not make the same assurance for streams lasting 12 hours or more, so do not count on one continuous 24/7 broadcast becoming a complete replay. See the encoder setup guide.
