To restrict access, set the child’s family-account game rating limit below Mature on the relevant platform. For a title-specific decision, Xbox’s family app supports allowing or blocking individual games; PlayStation offers game exceptions through its parental-control settings. Check the game’s local rating and the current on-screen menu labels before you finish.
The ESRB lists content descriptors including blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol; it also notes in-game purchases. These are US ESRB descriptors, not a universal rating. The US PlayStation product page has stated that the rating was unconfirmed, so use the ESRB listing for the US ESRB assignment and check the local rating label in other regions. How to block GTA 6 on a child’s PS5
Set age-based game restrictions on the child’s PlayStation family account. A family manager can customize restrictions for child family members. ESRB documents this PS5 route; PlayStation menu wording can change, so confirm the labels on the console.
- Make sure the child has a child account in your PlayStation family.
- On the PS5, open Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child, open Parental Controls, and choose a PS5 game restriction level below the level needed for the game’s local rating. You can customize the restriction level.
You can also use the PlayStation Family app: select the child, open settings and Parental Controls, then choose the restriction level and PS5 game age level. If you want to make a decision for one game rather than set a broad age limit, check the current family settings for the game-exception option. PlayStation support describes exceptions, but how they appear or work can depend on the account and current platform controls. How to block GTA 6 on Xbox
Xbox content restrictions can be set in the family app or on the console. ESRB documents the controls for Xbox One and later consoles; its guide also says Xbox restrictions affect Windows 10 devices. The app offers a title-level allow or block choice.
- Make sure the child is managed as a member of your Microsoft family.
- In the Xbox Family Settings app, select the child under Your Family, then open Content Restrictions.
- Turn on Filter Inappropriate Content, choose Allow Content Suitable for Age, and confirm the child’s age.
- To decide on a particular game, use the app’s individual-title allow/block option. The ESRB guide says children need parental confirmation for individually restricted games.
On the console, the documented route is Settings > Privacy and online safety, select a family member, then open Content restrictions. Labels may differ by software version. For details, see ESRB’s Xbox parental-controls guide.

Age limits versus a decision about one game

Xbox’s ESRB-documented family app includes individual-game allow/block controls. PlayStation support describes game exceptions; check the current account settings and platform guidance rather than assuming a particular override flow is available for every account.
Set communication, playtime, and spending rules separately
A game-rating restriction does not, by itself, set household rules for other account activity. Review these controls independently in each platform’s family settings:

- Communication and user-generated content: Choose whether the child can communicate online and view or share user-created content.
- Playtime: Set the schedule or limits that suit your household.
- Spending: Review purchase approvals and spending limits, particularly because the ESRB listing notes in-game purchases.
ESRB’s general parental-controls overview explains these categories. PlayStation’s and Xbox’s controls and labels are distinct, so configure them in the family settings for the account your child uses.

The M (Mature 17+) assignment above is the US ESRB rating for PS5 and Xbox Series. Rating systems differ by country, and the US PlayStation product page has also described the game’s rating as unconfirmed. Outside the US, use the rating shown for your region when selecting an age limit. When the game is available in your local store or on the console, check its displayed rating and adjust the child’s restriction level if needed.
