For a 1080p YouTube Live stream using H.264, set OBS to 10,000 Kbps at 30 fps or 12,000 Kbps at 60 fps, with CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. A Kannada playlist does not need a special bitrate: choose settings based on the video’s output resolution, frame rate, codec, and the upload connection’s stable capacity.

Recommended OBS settings for 1080p YouTube Live

YouTube’s live encoder settings list these H.264 recommendations for 1080p ingest. The minimum figures are platform-listed minimums, not recommended targets or guarantees of reliable streaming. [YouTube live encoder settings]

Output frame rate H.264 recommended bitrate H.264 listed minimum
30 fps 10 Mbps (10,000 Kbps) 5 Mbps (5,000 Kbps)
60 fps 12 Mbps (12,000 Kbps) 6 Mbps (6,000 Kbps)

Use the recommendation only if your internet connection can sustain it and the computer can encode reliably. If you select another supported ingest codec, use that codec’s column in YouTube’s settings rather than assuming the H.264 values apply.

Set the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in OBS

  1. Open Settings → Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920×1080. Choose 30 or 60 fps to match the source and the motion you want to present. OBS identifies 60 fps as more demanding than 30 fps. [OBS Studio overview]
  2. Open Settings → Output and set the video bitrate to 10,000 Kbps for 1080p30 or 12,000 Kbps for 1080p60, assuming H.264 and adequate, stable upload capacity.
  3. In the output encoder’s streaming options, select CBR (constant bitrate) and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. [YouTube live encoder settings]
  4. For the YouTube connection, use RTMPS where supported. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 as video codecs; for audio it lists AAC or MP3. Its stereo audio specification is 44.1 kHz at 128 Kbps. Confirm the available encoder and protocol options in your OBS version. [YouTube live encoder settings] [YouTube Live streaming protocols and ingestion]
  5. In YouTube Studio’s live control room, select or create the stream and copy its stream key into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording. Start a private or unlisted test before making the stream public.

Choose 30 or 60 fps for a Kannada playlist

The language of the playlist does not change the encoder bitrate requirement. The relevant factors are the output frame rate, resolution, and codec. For a playlist with a mostly static image or low-motion visual, 30 fps can be a sensible choice when it matches the source. Use 60 fps when smoother movement matters and the source, encoder, and connection can support it. This is practical guidance, not a YouTube rule specific to Kannada playlists.

  • If the videos are 30 fps, outputting at 60 fps does not add source motion.
  • At 60 fps, the computer has more work to do. If OBS struggles with rendering or encoding, reducing the frame rate to 30 fps can ease the load. [OBS Studio overview]
  • Keep the playlist’s audio and visual transitions in mind: a static devotional image and a video with frequent motion may behave differently in an actual test.

Match the bitrate to stable upload capacity

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain consistently, rather than relying on a brief peak speed-test result. The exact safe setting depends on the available upload bandwidth and its stability; without a measurement of your connection, there is no personalized maximum to recommend.

OBS notes that dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a configured bitrate the connection cannot maintain. Its troubleshooting guidance recommends lowering the video bitrate when necessary and accounting for the streaming service’s limits. [OBS dropped frames and network troubleshooting]

Test before making the stream public

  1. Run a private or unlisted stream with representative playlist audio, movement, and transitions. YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to what the live stream will contain. [YouTube: Test your live stream]
  2. Watch OBS’s dropped-frame and encoding indicators, and check YouTube’s stream-health messages in the live control room.
  3. If frames drop, lower the video bitrate and test again. If the computer cannot render or encode smoothly, try 30 fps instead of 60 fps.
  4. After going live, continue checking stream health and messages. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats, so the encoder’s 1080p input setting does not mean every viewer necessarily receives exactly that format. [YouTube live encoding and transcoding]

Copyright and playlist readiness

Before streaming a playlist publicly, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the music, recordings, artwork, and other material. A song being available online or included in a playlist does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it. Use YouTube Studio’s stream-health information during the test and review any copyright notices or restrictions that appear. Bitrate settings cannot resolve rights or eligibility issues.
