To make OBS retry its YouTube Live connection after an interruption, open Settings → Output, enable Automatically Reconnect, set Retry Delay and Maximum Retries, then apply the changes. Those retries only help after your internet route works again: they cannot restore a failed ISP connection or guarantee YouTube will keep the same broadcast active after a long outage.
Enable automatic reconnect in OBS
- Before your stream, open Settings → Output in OBS.
- Find and enable Automatically Reconnect.
- Choose values for Retry Delay and Maximum Retries.
- Select Apply, then close Settings.
These are the English control names in OBS project localization. Labels or layout can vary by OBS version, so check the controls in your installed release. There is no universally correct retry delay or retry count: choose values with your expected interruptions in mind, without treating them as a way to fix the network itself.
Test the stream and connection before going live
YouTube recommends testing before an event, checking upload bitrate, matching stream quality to connection capacity, and watching stream health and messages while live. Test from the same connection and setup you plan to use. For an India-based channel, your actual ISP connection and route matter; there is no single OBS retry setting or ingest choice established as best across India.
- Confirm OBS can connect and YouTube Live Control Room receives data.
- Check stream health and encoder messages rather than relying only on OBS appearing connected.
- Use a stream quality your connection can sustain consistently, not merely a peak upload result.
What happens during an outage—and what to check after
When the internet drops, OBS can make connection attempts according to its reconnect settings. Those attempts can succeed only after the computer can reach the streaming server again. OBS identifies intermittent disconnections as network problems between the computer and remote ingest server, which are commonly outside OBS’s control.

- Restore the internet connection or wait for the ISP route to recover; reconnect retries cannot do this for you.
- Check OBS’s connection status to see whether it has reconnected.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for incoming data, stream health, and encoder messages.
- If OBS appears connected but YouTube is not receiving data, check encoder operation and the outbound internet connection. If the outbound connection remains faulty, contact your ISP.
A prolonged interruption may leave the original YouTube broadcast unavailable or no longer active. Automatic reconnect is not a guarantee that YouTube will preserve that broadcast; check the Live Control Room and follow its current status and messages.
Troubleshoot recurring disconnections
If Wi-Fi is unstable
OBS recommends a wired connection for streaming. Try Ethernet if practical: it can address instability on the local wireless link, but it cannot fix an outage at your ISP. OBS’s published guidance says, “It’s recommended to use a wired connection when streaming.”

If upload capacity is inconsistent
Lower the bitrate to a level your connection can sustain reliably. A lower bitrate can reduce dropped frames, but it also reduces video quality; dynamic bitrate may help when the connection cannot keep up, but OBS says it does not solve the underlying cause.

If the problem appears to involve the route or server
OBS suggests trying a different server. The available YouTube ingest choices may depend on your configuration, so this is not a promise that every setup exposes a geographically selectable server. On Windows, OBS also suggests trying network optimizations and TCP pacing. Leave Bind to IP at Default unless troubleshooting calls for a test; if IPv4-only makes no difference, OBS recommends returning to IPv4 and IPv6.

If changing OBS settings does not help
Check possible causes outside OBS, including VPN instability, security software interference, network-optimization utilities, outdated network drivers, Wi-Fi, faulty router, modem, cabling or other network equipment, and ISP congestion. Change one factor at a time where possible so you can tell whether it helped. If the connection remains unstable, ask your ISP to investigate.

OBS reconnect settings are for a computer running OBS and sending a live encoder feed.
