Set audio gain at the source first, check what your operating system sends to OBS, then use the OBS mixer fader for the final balance. Speak or play the loudest planned music passage while watching the meter, keep the output below clipping, and listen to a representative recording before starting a long stream. There is no single correct meter number for every yoga class: soft music, spoken instruction, room noise and microphone placement all affect what sounds clear.
Set the audio level in the right order
- Identify the audio sources. In OBS, distinguish the instructor’s microphone from music or desktop audio. Mute sources that should not be part of the stream, then confirm the intended sources in a test recording.
- Adjust the source before OBS. If the microphone has a physical gain control, begin there. Aim for a clean signal rather than trying to fix noisy or distorted input with filters.
- Check the operating-system input. Inspect the recording-device level and any application-specific volume controls. Some devices have a usable range below 100%, and their behavior varies, so check the signal OBS actually receives rather than assuming the maximum is best.
- Balance sources with the OBS mixer. Speak at the distance and intensity you expect during class. For music, check both quiet sections and the loudest passage. Use the OBS fader to balance the mic against the music; avoid raising a noisy source simply to make the meter look busy.
- Listen while monitoring. First listen at the input device if possible, then open OBS Edit > Advanced Audio Properties and set the relevant source’s Audio Monitoring option to monitor it. Headphones can help reveal hum, noise, channel imbalance, pumping, or music that masks instruction.
- Add filters only for a problem you can hear. OBS provides filters including gain, noise suppression and noise gate. A gate set too aggressively can cut soft speech or breathing. Compression may reduce dynamic swings, but there is no universal yoga-voice or music setting; make small changes and listen again.
- Record and review a representative session. Check loud voice and music moments, quiet phrases, transitions and pauses. Play the recording on a separate phone or computer at an ordinary listening volume as well as through your setup. OBS recommends recording a normal session and listening back before going live: OBS Audio Mixer Guide.
Read the OBS meter without chasing a magic number
The OBS meter uses green, yellow and red zones. Its moving bar shows peaks; a black indicator approximates average loudness, and the peak-hold marker preserves a recent maximum for 20 seconds. Watch what happens at the loudest phrase or musical transient. A momentary peak is useful for catching overload, but the meter alone does not tell you whether a viewer can understand the instructor or whether the overall program sounds comfortable.
OBS’s technical guide gives these calibration references, not yoga-specific targets:
- -20 dBFS: OBS calls this its Alignment Level, near the average speech level in a calibrated equipment chain.
- -9 dBFS: OBS calls this its Permitted Maximum Level, leaving margin for meter and alignment uncertainty.
- 0 dBFS: Digital full scale, the maximum level the output chain can handle. Reaching or exceeding it risks clipping distortion.
These values are explained in the OBS Audio Mixer Technical Details. For a mostly musical yoga stream, keep ordinary passages comfortably below red and leave headroom for the loudest moment. Do not treat a suggested peak range as a YouTube rule: the cited official guidance does not specify a yoga-stream loudness target or an integrated loudness target for OBS streams.

Balance voice and music for a class
If the stream includes both instruction and a music bed, judge them together rather than setting each source in isolation. Speech should remain intelligible over the music without making quiet guidance sound harsh or excessively loud. Listen for noise during pauses, sudden jumps at transitions, and whether both stereo channels are present and balanced. Check soft phrases and breathing before increasing noise suppression or tightening a gate.
There is no India-specific OBS audio level in the cited documentation. The audio workflow is the same; test your actual PC, internet connection, cooling and power arrangement for the duration you intend to stream. A short test can expose audio problems, but it cannot establish that a particular home setup will run continuously for 24 hours.

Choose audio output settings for YouTube Live
If YouTube Live is your destination, its encoder guidance recommends stereo audio encoded as AAC or MP3 at 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate; it also recommends RTMPS. These are platform encoder settings, not OBS meter levels. Match sample rates across devices where practical and verify that OBS is using the intended audio device. YouTube asks creators to test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream and monitor stream health during the event: YouTube live encoder settings.
The OBS overview gives around 160 kbps as a general streaming-audio suggestion, or less when upload speed is constrained. For a YouTube-focused setup, use YouTube’s stated 128 kbps stereo guidance rather than mistaking OBS’s general suggestion for a YouTube requirement. OBS’s broader audio and streaming guidance is in the OBS Studio Overview Guide. Keep audio bitrate separate from video bitrate: changing the video resolution or frame rate does not set your mic or music level.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Test the complete 24/7 setup before relying on it
- Use the planned OBS scene, audio sources, encoder settings and internet connection.
- Make a representative local recording and review it on a viewer device, including loud passages, quiet instruction, pauses and transitions.
- Run a test stream for as much of the planned session as practical. Check the destination platform’s stream-health messages while live.
- For a continuous schedule, assess the actual PC’s heat, power continuity and network stability over time. Audio meters cannot confirm those operational conditions.
Troubleshoot common audio problems
| What you hear or see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Distorted or harsh audio | The source or output is clipping, or gain is excessive earlier in the chain. | Lower the physical input gain first, then check the OS level and OBS fader. Test the loudest voice and music moment again. |
| Voice is hard to understand over music | The music is too prominent, the mic is too far away, or voice and music levels vary across the session. | Recheck mic position and source balance using both quiet and loud passages. Listen on a separate viewer device. |
| Room noise is obvious in pauses | The input may be too noisy or a filter may be needed. | Improve the source signal first. Try noise suppression or a gentle gate only if listening confirms the problem; verify that soft speech and breathing remain audible. |
| Soft words or breaths disappear | A noise gate or suppression setting may be too aggressive. | Reduce or disable the filter and record another sample that includes quiet phrases and pauses. |
| One channel is missing or sounds different | The selected device, channel configuration or cabling may be incorrect. | Confirm the intended OBS input and stereo channel behavior in a recording, then listen through both channels on another device. |
| The OBS meter moves, but the stream sounds wrong | A meter does not reveal all issues of intelligibility, balance or viewer playback. | Monitor the OBS output, record a representative session and review it on a separate phone or computer. |
