Set up channel memberships in YouTube Studio, then offer a small number of benefits your team can deliver reliably: recognition at the entry tier, occasional learning-focused participation in the middle, and scheduled personal teaching at the top. A stream can run around the clock; that does not mean a teacher is available around the clock.
Check whether your channel can turn on memberships
In YouTube Studio, check your channel’s current eligibility before planning prices or promising perks. YouTube’s monetization guidance lists these fan-funding thresholds: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 eligible public watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million eligible Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Other requirements include being at least 18, living where memberships are available, accepting the relevant commerce module, and not having the channel set as Made for Kids or otherwise excluded under YouTube’s children’s-content criteria. Requirements can change, so confirm the current status and criteria in Studio. YouTube Partner Programme and monetization eligibility.
Even after Partner Programme acceptance, memberships may not activate immediately: YouTube reviews the channel against its eligibility criteria, and that review can take up to two days. YouTube’s channel-membership setup instructions.

- Sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer.
- Open Earn > Memberships.
- Select Get started and follow the on-screen steps. First-time creators may need to accept the Commerce Product Module.
- After memberships are enabled, create levels and add their perks. YouTube’s instruction is: “Once you’ve turned on channel memberships, you can create perks and levels for your channel’s memberships programme.” YouTube Help: Turn channel memberships on or off.
Choose perks that suit a continuous education stream
YouTube supports benefits including badges, emoji, members-only posts, videos, Shorts, live streams and live chat. Members-only live chat can be enabled on a public livestream: everyone can watch, while only members can chat. Higher membership levels include the benefits of lower levels. A practical starting point is one to three levels. YouTube advises creators to weigh the effort to deliver a perk against its value to the audience, get community feedback and consider starting with one to three levels. The following structure applies that guidance to an Indian education channel; it is a suggestion, not a YouTube-prescribed formula. YouTube Help: Channel membership pricing tips.

Choose only benefits your team can sustain, and ask viewers which ones they value. Make human-delivered perks explicit: specify the schedule, frequency and response limits. Do not suggest that members will receive immediate or continuous answers unless you have reliable coverage to provide them.

Set an India price with clear expectations
YouTube’s India membership pricing options include price points such as ₹59, ₹119, ₹179, ₹239, ₹299, ₹359, ₹419, ₹479 and ₹599, among higher tiers. These are available platform price points, not evidence of what a particular education audience will pay. Updated channel-membership prices began rolling out gradually in May 2025, and a member’s price can depend on when they joined. Creators receive 70% of membership revenue recognized by Google after local sales tax and other applicable fees are deducted. That is not necessarily 70% of the displayed price: the deductions come first. In India, YouTube says members may need to verify or re-enter payment details to maintain recurring memberships because of RBI eMandate requirements. A payment interruption can affect membership access, so do not make a member’s long-term learning plan depend on uninterrupted subscription status without a fallback. Check the policy and delivery details before publishing
- Review YouTube’s current membership policies and guidelines for every proposed perk, including benefits involving access to content, downloads, contests or external services. Policies apply whether a benefit is described in the membership window or delivered elsewhere. YouTube Help: Channel membership policies.
- Explain exactly what a member receives, how often, and where to find it. For a scheduled session, publish the time or timetable and a plan for missed sessions.
- Keep the public education stream distinct from paid extras. A useful framing is that memberships support the public stream and provide optional recognition, participation or scheduled learning benefits.
- Revisit the offer if the channel’s teaching capacity changes. Continuous broadcast availability is not a promise of continuous personal support.
