Start with the fuel-price service for your region: coverage and alert options vary, and many notifications report a price you choose rather than predict an upcoming increase. Find a supported local service, select your fuel grade and a station or price threshold, then enable notifications both in the app and in your phone settings. Price trends can help with planning, but they are not a guarantee that prices will rise on a particular day.
Choose a fuel-price service that covers your area
Before installing an app, check whether it lists stations where you drive and the fuel grade you buy. Compare how it gets prices—such as government submissions, partner data or reports from users—and how recent those prices are. The ACCC’s 2024 guide notes that coverage differs among fuel apps and websites, so a service that works well in one area may not be useful elsewhere: ACCC guide to fuel apps and websites.
If your government or regulator runs a fuel-price service, check it first. For Australian drivers outside NSW and the ACT, check your jurisdiction’s current service; do not assume that another state’s app or alert features apply where you live.
Know which kind of “alert” you are setting
Price-threshold notification
This tells you when a saved station or nearby price meets a condition you selected. It is a response to a price, not necessarily a warning that prices are about to increase.

Price-cycle or trend information
A trend view may show local price movements or suggest cheaper days. Treat it as planning information, not a promise about what a station will charge or when prices will change.

A deal notification is an offer with its own activation, timing and redemption rules. It does not forecast a general rise in fuel prices.

Set up a price alert on your phone
- Open the official local service. Install or open the government fuel-price app or another reputable service that covers your area. Review its location coverage and price freshness before relying on its results.
- Choose the fuel grade. Select the grade you actually use; prices and station availability can differ by grade.
- Save a station or location, if supported. Add a regular station, or set a home or work area to make nearby results easier to check.
- Allow the permissions the service needs. Enable notifications in the app and in your phone’s operating-system settings. If nearby results depend on location, allow location access; enable internet access for services that require it to display current prices.
- Set the alert condition. Use the app’s current controls to select a preferred price, favourite station or nearby-price condition. Menu names and alert options vary by app and phone, so follow the labels in the version you have installed.
- Check that alerts arrive and review them periodically. Confirm that notifications are not blocked by your phone settings. Update saved stations, fuel grade and price target when your route or routine changes.
Options for Australian drivers
NSW and the ACT: FuelCheck
FuelCheck is the NSW Government service for NSW and the ACT. Its Check fuel prices page describes alerts for a preferred petrol price at a favourite station or a cheaper nearby station, trip planning, and “Trends” information about local price movements and cheaper days. The government describes FuelCheck as helping drivers find cheaper fuel and identify a better day to fill up; that trend information is not a guaranteed forecast.
The service says an internet connection is needed for the most up-to-date prices, and approximate location with location permission is used to find nearby stations. Check the current app for the available alert controls and coverage: FuelCheck service information. A NSW Government release dated 20 March 2026 said FuelCheck gave motorists access to prices from around 2,400 service stations across NSW. That is a coverage figure, not evidence that users will save a particular amount or reliably fill up before a rise: NSW Government release.

Western Australia: check FuelWatch’s current features
The ACCC’s 2024 report discusses FuelWatch and historical weekly alerts associated with Perth’s price cycle. That is dated information, not confirmation of FuelWatch’s current notification controls. Check the ACCC report for that historical context and consult FuelWatch directly for present-day features.

Waze: station lookup, not a confirmed price-rise alert
Waze lets drivers find and compare gas stations, choose a preferred fuel type and brand, and sort results by price, distance or brand. Its official documentation does not establish fuel-price-change push alerts. Waze also says business information may come from users, Google and partners, and that it does not verify third-party data or guarantee that it is accurate or current. Use it as a supplementary lookup and check the price’s recency: Waze Help.

GasBuddy: station-specific offers in the United States and Canada
GasBuddy’s app listing describes the United States and Canada as its geographic scope. Its current offer feature, called “Flash Deals (formerly Deal Alerts)” in the help center, is a promotion—not a general warning about future prices. To use one, find a deal banner on the Find Gas screen, sign in, choose a station and activate the deal before filling up. The documented offer window is four hours after activation. Depending on the offer, membership and payment method, claiming a reward or discount may require uploading a paper receipt; GasBuddy says receipt processing can take 1–10 days. Troubleshoot alerts that do not arrive
- Confirm phone permissions. Check both the app’s notification settings and your phone’s operating-system notification controls.
- Check location and connectivity. Nearby-station results may need location permission; services that show current prices may need an internet connection.
- Review the saved conditions. Make sure the selected station, fuel grade and threshold match what you intended. A threshold alert may not notify you about a predicted future increase.
- Check the service’s coverage and price freshness. A station or fuel grade may not be listed, and app data may differ in source and recency. Do not treat an old or unverified listing as a current pump price.
- Revisit the app’s current controls. Interface labels and features can change, so consult its in-app help or settings if the alert option has moved.
