Use a Fluxguard Inclusion Filter to keep one selected region as the monitoring focus and remove the rest of the page from the DOM. Let Fluxguard complete an initial crawl first, set the filter in Page or Session Settings, then crawl again to check that the intended region remains.
Set an Inclusion Filter
- Establish a baseline. Add the page and let Fluxguard complete its initial crawl. The captured version gives you a reference for checking the filter.
- Choose the filter scope. Open Page Settings to filter one page, or Session Settings to share the filter across pages in that session. Fluxguard also documents account-level filters.
- Identify the region to keep. In Inclusion Filters, use Visual Selector to select the region in a rendered view, or enter a CSS selector. You can also inspect the live page in Chrome: right-click the region, choose Inspect, find the corresponding element, and use Copy Selector.
- Save and validate. Save the settings and start another crawl. Check that the target remains and unrelated page areas are removed. If the result is blank, the inclusion selector may not have matched; inspect the page and selector.
Prefer a simple selector that identifies the target without relying on deep nesting or many changing classes. Fluxguard warns that complex selectors can break when a site changes its structure, and every added filter creates maintenance work. Fluxguard’s documentation recommends using as few filters as possible.
Choose the filter that matches your goal

Inclusion and exclusion filters alter what is in the DOM before capture. Selector Ignore works later, after capture and before HTML comparison, so it preserves the captured region. They are not interchangeable.

Make selectors more reliable
- Visual Selector uses HTML from the initial crawl and may not render every site perfectly. If it fails to identify the area reliably, inspect the live page and use a CSS selector.
- DevTools’ Copy Selector can produce a long selector tied to many nested elements or classes. Reduce it to the shortest selector that still uniquely identifies the intended region, then confirm the match in the browser’s Elements panel.
- A selector that no longer matches can produce a blank page alert. Recheck it against the current page if the site layout or markup changes.
- Start without filters and add them when false positives justify the extra maintenance. Avoid overlapping filters and crawl again after each change to inspect its effect.
- Fluxguard’s guidance treats more than five Exclusion Filters as a cue to consider whether a smaller number of Inclusion Filters would be simpler.
If filtering is not the right fix
Filters are useful when a specific part of the DOM is noisy or irrelevant. If false positives persist, Fluxguard also names change-detection strategy, Network Blocks, and Transforms as alternatives. Choose based on the cause of the changes rather than stacking selectors indiscriminately.
