OpenCode’s documented TUI defaults work the other way around: Enter submits a prompt, while Ctrl+Enter inserts a new line. To use Ctrl+Enter to submit and Enter for new lines, customize the TUI keybindings in tui.json. This mapping is a custom configuration, not the documented default.
Set the TUI keybindings
OpenCode’s TUI has separate keybinding settings for submitting a prompt and inserting a line break. Set input_submit to ctrl+return and input_newline to return to request the behavior you want. OpenCode documents these fields and key names, but does not give this reversed mapping as an official example. See the OpenCode keybindings documentation.

}Add these entries to the keybinds object in your TUI configuration. If you already have a tui.json, edit its existing keybinds object rather than creating a second one. Preserve any other keybindings you rely on. The schema line is optional; the action values are the relevant settings.

What each setting changes
input_submitcontrols the key that sends the prompt.input_newlinecontrols the key that adds a line break while composing a prompt.
In the documented defaults, input_submit is return. The default choices for input_newline include ctrl+return, shift+return, alt+return, and ctrl+j. Changing the two fields assigns Return and Ctrl+Return to the opposite actions. The OpenCode TUI guide describes the default interaction as Enter to submit and Ctrl+Enter as one way to add a line.

Check the mapping in your terminal
- Open the OpenCode TUI and begin composing a prompt with more than one line.
- Press Enter. It should add a line break rather than submit the prompt.
- Press Ctrl+Enter. It should submit the prompt.
Modified Enter keys are not always delivered consistently by terminals. If Ctrl+Enter does not submit, check whether your terminal passes that key sequence through to OpenCode; the TUI documentation notes that terminal configuration may be needed for modified Enter shortcuts. If the mapping still does not behave as expected, confirm that the settings are in the TUI’s tui.json keybind configuration and verify the behavior in your installed OpenCode version and terminal.
Scope: OpenCode TUI, not the desktop editor
These tui.json settings are for the OpenCode terminal user interface. The keybinding documentation also discusses desktop prompt-editing shortcuts, but does not establish that the TUI configuration controls the desktop app. Do not assume this mapping will change desktop behavior.
