For a stereo YouTube live stream, start with AAC at 128 Kbps: YouTube lists 128 Kbps as its recommended stereo audio bitrate and supports AAC or MP3. A continuous 128 Kbps audio stream carries about 1.38 GB of audio payload per day, or 41.47 GB over 30 days. Those are bitrate calculations, not a guarantee of what your ISP will meter. If that volume will not fit your broadband allowance, audition a lower setting such as 64 Kbps and confirm both sound quality and connection stability before relying on it.
Set the encoder to YouTube’s stereo audio baseline
In your live encoder’s audio settings, choose stereo and AAC at 128 Kbps. YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. These are audio settings; do not confuse them with YouTube’s separate recommendations for uploaded video.
The exact labels and menu path vary by encoder, so look for its audio codec, channel layout, and bitrate controls. If it offers AAC, use that for the baseline. MP3 is also listed by YouTube as a supported live audio codec. Keep the audio channel layout stereo if the music is intended for stereo playback.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEstimate how much data the stream uses
Continuous audio data use is determined by the encoded bitrate and runtime. Using decimal gigabytes, the estimate is: bitrate in kilobits per second × seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000. The following figures are audio payload estimates for uninterrupted streaming.

| Audio bitrate | Estimated payload per 24 hours | Estimated payload per 30 days |
|---|---|---|
| 128 Kbps | 1.3824 GB | 41.472 GB |
| 64 Kbps | 0.6912 GB | 20.736 GB |
For example, at 128 Kbps: 128 × 86,400 ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000 = 1.3824 GB per day; multiplying that daily figure by 30 gives 41.472 GB. At 64 Kbps, the bitrate and estimated payload are half as large.
These calculations exclude protocol overhead, reconnection traffic, and other use on your broadband connection. Actual metered use can therefore be higher. They are not YouTube-published usage statistics or a prediction of your ISP bill.

Check whether the bitrate fits your Indian broadband plan
There is no single data-cap figure that applies to every Indian broadband customer. Your allowance, fair-usage policy (FUP), metering, and any speed changes after a threshold depend on your provider and plan. Check those terms with your ISP rather than assuming a particular monthly cap.
Recommended Free Tools
- Find your plan’s monthly data allowance and any FUP or post-limit conditions.
- Estimate the household’s other monthly data use, including any devices sharing the connection.
- Compare the remaining allowance with the stream’s estimated payload: about 41.472 GB for 30 days at 128 Kbps, or 20.736 GB at 64 Kbps.
- Leave additional room for overhead, reconnects, and changes in household use; the payload estimate is not the full connection total.
If the 128 Kbps estimate does not fit, do not assume that a lower setting will sound acceptable for your music. Test it first, then compare the listening result with the data allowance you have available.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
Use a lower bitrate only after listening tests
64 Kbps is a possible lower-data setting to audition, not YouTube’s recommended stereo bitrate. Because the encoded music may sound different at a lower bitrate, assess it using representative tracks and the devices your audience is likely to use. No universal setting guarantees acceptable sound for every genre, encoder, or listening setup.
- Test music with the range of detail and dynamics present in your playlist, not just one simple track.
- Listen on more than one typical playback device if possible, and check the stream itself rather than judging only the source file.
- Compare the result at the intended bitrate before leaving the stream running continuously.
- If you cannot accept the audio tradeoff, use the higher setting and check whether your plan can support its estimated monthly payload.
Make sure the upload connection is stable
Audio bitrate and upload reliability are separate constraints. YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. Check the connection’s outbound upload performance, not only the download speed advertised in your plan, and test under realistic conditions.

YouTube also recommends an Ethernet cable for live streaming from a computer. A wired connection may help with reliability, but it does not lower the encoded audio bitrate or the data volume. YouTube’s encoder guidance and streaming advice also call for testing the setup and monitoring stream health.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Troubleshoot a stream that will not stay stable
- The stream drops or buffers: Check outbound upload performance and whether the total stream bitrate leaves YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test again under the conditions in which the stream will actually run.
- The household reaches its data limit sooner than expected: The payload estimate excludes overhead, reconnections, and other devices’ use. Check the ISP’s metering and FUP terms, then review shared connection use.
- The lower-bitrate stream sounds poor: Treat 64 Kbps as an option to test, not a guaranteed-quality setting. Compare representative music before choosing it for continuous use.
- A computer-based stream has an unreliable connection: If practical, connect the computer to the router by Ethernet and test the stream again. This is a reliability measure, not a data-saving method.
