Set a default timeout for page navigation
Call page.setDefaultNavigationTimeout() before navigating. The value is the maximum wait in milliseconds:

Set a timeout for one navigation
Pass timeout in the options for the specific call when you do not want to change the page-wide default:

Choose the right timeout method

Understand what a timeout does—and does not do
A timeout sets how long Puppeteer waits for an operation before it reports that the wait exceeded its limit. Increasing it can help with a slow response, but it does not repair every navigation failure. Puppeteer’s Frame.goto() reference also lists invalid URLs, SSL errors, unreachable servers, and main-resource failures as possible causes of navigation errors.
Setting timeout: 0 disables the timeout for that wait. Use it cautiously: if the page never reaches the expected navigation condition, the script may wait indefinitely unless you provide another way to stop or recover.

Troubleshoot navigation timeouts
- The navigation still times out: Confirm the value is in milliseconds and that the setting runs before the navigation. Use
60_000for 60 seconds. If only one operation needs extra time, set its call-leveltimeout. - A non-navigation wait still uses the old limit:
setDefaultNavigationTimeout()is scoped to navigation methods. For broader page waits, reviewpage.setDefaultTimeout()and the specific wait’s options. - The error is not actually a timeout: Check the URL and the underlying network, SSL, server, or main-resource failure. A longer limit will not make an invalid URL or unreachable server work.
- The script hangs after disabling the timeout: Replace
0with a finite limit, or ensure your automation has its own cancellation or recovery path.
