To play media through Bluetooth headphones, earbuds, or a speaker on a Samsung Galaxy, pair and connect the device, open the Quick panel, tap Media or Media output, then select the device. Labels and panel gestures vary by Galaxy model and software.
Connect the Bluetooth device first
- Put your headphones, earbuds, or speaker into pairing mode.
- On your Galaxy phone, open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on, and pair and connect the device. Samsung also documents pairing through Quick settings. Follow the prompts shown for your device. Samsung’s Bluetooth pairing guide covers the connection process.
The device needs to be connected—not merely paired—to appear as an audio destination.
Choose the Bluetooth device for media playback
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the Quick panel. Samsung documents different swipe gestures in its support instructions, so the gesture and panel layout may depend on your Galaxy and software.
- Tap Media or Media output to view the available playback destinations.
- Tap the connected Bluetooth device’s name or icon. Media should play through it. If you want to use the phone speaker again, choose the phone as the output when it appears.
Samsung describes the Media panel as available on Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 10 or later, but features and screen labels can vary by model and software. See Samsung’s Media and Devices instructions and its US guide to controlling Media and Devices.

Choose the right audio-routing feature

Route only one app with Separate app sound
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Separate app sound.
- Enable the feature, choose the app, and select the audio device. The Bluetooth device must be connected to appear as an option.

If the Bluetooth device is missing or silent
- Check that Bluetooth is on and that the device is connected in Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- Open the Media panel again and look for the connected device in the output list.
- If you are using Separate app sound, confirm that the feature is enabled and that you selected the intended app and audio device.
Samsung’s cited instructions establish these checks, but they do not provide one troubleshooting sequence that applies to every Galaxy model and Bluetooth device.
