Google Messages’ photo-based custom emoji feature is called Photomoji. To send one as a sticker, create it from the message box; to attach it as a reaction, start by touching and holding the message you want to react to. Both options let you choose an image from your gallery.
Send a Photomoji as a sticker
A sticker is sent as its own item in the conversation, rather than being attached to another message.
- Open Google Messages and select a conversation.
- Tap the message box, then tap Emoji and Create.
- Select a photo from your gallery.
- If Google Messages identifies more than one subject in the photo, tap the subject you want to use.
- Tap Send.
To send a Photomoji you have already saved, open the emoji picker from the message box and choose the Photomoji.
Use a Photomoji as a reaction
A reaction is attached to a specific message.
- Open the conversation and touch and hold the message you want to react to.
- Tap Create, then select a photo from your gallery.
- If prompted, choose the subject to use.
- Tap Send.
To reuse a saved Photomoji as a reaction, touch and hold the message, open the emoji or reaction picker, and choose the Photomoji.
