To send a prerecorded playlist to YouTube Live with Restream, open Pre-recorded livestream → Playlist, select or upload your videos, arrange them, customize the playlist if needed, then preview it or schedule it. Restream says a scheduled playlist can broadcast automatically, even while your laptop is unplugged. First make sure your YouTube channel is eligible to livestream.
Before you build the playlist
- Check YouTube livestream eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned broadcast. YouTube’s livestreaming guidance explains eligibility and activation.
- Check the files and account limits. Restream’s file-size limits depend on subscription level. Its older video-event guide dates to 2022, so confirm current file size, duration, storage, and plan availability in your Restream account before preparing a large playlist. Restream’s prerecorded-video guide describes event details such as title, description, schedule, cover image, and destinations.
- Prepare a clear sequence. Decide the playback order and whether you want a countdown, captions, playlist designs, or QR codes before scheduling.
Create and schedule a Restream playlist
- From the Restream home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then Playlist. If you have made a playlist before, Restream’s current guide says you can select it from the home screen.
- Select videos already in your Restream library, or upload the files you want to include.
- Arrange the videos in the order you want them to play. Check the sequence carefully; this is the order viewers will receive.
- Select Add Video to add more files or create a countdown.
- Apply designs, captions, or QR codes if they suit the broadcast. These are optional customization choices, not prerequisites for sending the playlist.
- Preview the playlist to check its contents and order, then schedule when it should go live. Follow the event state and controls Restream shows for your account, and verify that the corresponding YouTube event or watch page is configured as intended. Restream’s playlist instructions describe the current workflow and say scheduled playlists can run automatically.
Restream playlist versus a YouTube encoder stream
These are different ways to deliver video. The Restream playlist flow prepares and schedules an ordered set of uploaded or library videos. A YouTube encoder workflow sends a feed from an encoder and uses YouTube’s Live Control Room. Choose the workflow before following its instructions: encoder-specific steps should not be assumed to apply to a hosted Restream playlist.
| Workflow | What you do | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Restream playlist | Choose or upload videos in Restream, order them, then preview or schedule the combined broadcast. | Confirm current account limits and the playlist/event status shown in Restream. |
| YouTube encoder stream | Configure an encoder for YouTube, start sending the feed, inspect the preview, and use Live Control Room controls. | Requires encoder setup and operator involvement; suited to a feed workflow rather than simply scheduling a prepared playlist. |
For the encoder workflow, YouTube describes the stream key as a credential that tells an encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Treat it as sensitive account information. The encoder guide’s instruction to start the encoder, check preview, and click Go live is specific to that workflow; do not treat it as a universal Restream playlist requirement. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide and stream settings guidance.
Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Only schedule videos you have the rights to use on YouTube, including any music, footage, images, or other material in them. A playlist being prerecorded does not change the need to follow YouTube’s rules or the terms of any licenses. Check YouTube’s current rules and restrictions for your channel before broadcasting, particularly if the material is third-party content.

Troubleshooting
- You cannot livestream from the channel: verify the channel and check for an active livestream restriction. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for it to become available.
- A video will not upload: check the current file-size, duration, and storage limits for your Restream plan in the account. Limits vary by subscription; do not rely on an old plan limit.
- The playlist plays in the wrong order: return to the playlist editor and arrange the videos in the intended sequence before scheduling.
- You cannot find a YouTube event or the expected controls: check the event and destination configuration shown in Restream and YouTube. A hosted playlist is not the same as an encoder session, so do not assume an encoder’s manual Go live sequence applies.
- You are asked for a stream key: distinguish an encoder setup from the hosted playlist flow. YouTube uses stream keys for encoder feeds; do not paste one into a Restream playlist workflow unless Restream’s current instructions explicitly require it.
