Short answer: Wowza Video (formerly Wowza Streaming Cloud) can send a prerecorded file to YouTube as a live stream, but a file loop is not the same as a multi-file playlist. A Wowza support response dated July 10, 2025 said scheduled, multi-file playlist broadcasting was not then available in Wowza Video. For a single-file workaround, combine the clips into one MP4, host it somewhere Wowza can access, create a Wowza Video stream from that file, and add YouTube as an external RTMP destination. Check Wowza’s current feature status before relying on the dated playlist answer.
What Wowza can—and cannot—do for a prerecorded playlist
Wowza Streaming Cloud is now called Wowza Video. Wowza says existing customers retain the product functionality in the user interface and API. Wowza’s explanation of the product name change covers the transition.
The key distinction is between sending one prerecorded file and scheduling multiple files in sequence. Wowza Video documents a Stream from File workflow and an option to loop a source file. Those capabilities do not, by themselves, create a playlist of separate files.

In a Wowza Community response dated July 10, 2025, Wowza technical support representative Jason Hilton said multi-file scheduled prerecorded broadcasts to external platforms were not then available in Wowza Video. He described combining clips into one MP4 as a limited workaround and identified Wowza Streaming Engine with StreamPublisher as an alternative for playlist scheduling. That response is dated; confirm the current feature status with Wowza before choosing a workflow. Read the support thread.

The cited material does not establish current plan eligibility, regional availability, maximum file size or duration, or pricing for these workflows. Check those details with Wowza for your account before scheduling a long broadcast.
How to send one prerecorded file to YouTube through Wowza Video
This documented workflow sends one file. To make a playlist-like sequence, first combine the clips into one MP4; that workaround has the limits described above. The file must be hosted at a location Wowza can access. Wowza lists HTTP, HTTPS, GS, and S3 source protocols. See Wowza’s Stream from File guide.

- Prepare and host the video. If you need multiple clips, combine them into one MP4 using a suitable editing or encoding tool. Upload the finished file to an accessible HTTP, HTTPS, GS, or S3 location and copy its source URL. Check that the file can be reached from outside your local network and that the URL points to the intended file.
- Create a file-based live stream in Wowza Video. In Wowza Video, create a live stream and choose the Stream from File source workflow. Enter the hosted file’s source URL and complete the stream setup. Wowza’s setup documentation describes the setup page, while labels can vary with product updates: Wowza Video Live Stream Setup page.
- Allow for the file download. Wowza downloads the source file after the live stream starts. Do not assume that clicking start means the video begins playing immediately; verify that the source loads and the stream becomes active before the intended broadcast.
- Add YouTube as an external destination. In the Wowza Video live-stream details workflow, add an external-service target that sends RTMP to YouTube. Obtain the current ingest URL, stream key, and any account-specific live-stream requirements from YouTube’s own current live-stream documentation. Wowza’s destination setup documentation directs users to the external service for its target ingest details: Wowza Video live-stream details. Do not reuse an ingest URL or key from an old broadcast unless YouTube’s current instructions say it is appropriate.
- Start and check the feed end to end. Start the Wowza stream and confirm the source file is playing in Wowza’s available preview or status view. Then confirm that YouTube accepts the incoming feed in the current YouTube live workflow before you rely on it for an audience. The Wowza documentation cited here does not establish YouTube-specific account checks or status labels, so follow YouTube’s current instructions for those.
Looping one file in Wowza Video
If the same file should repeat, Wowza documents an advanced transcoder property called Play source file on a loop. Enable that property for the stream’s source file. This repeats a single file; it does not advance through several separate files.

There is an operational cost consequence: looping overrides the idle timeout, and the transcoder continues accruing charges until you manually stop the stream. Set a reminder or other operational check so a test or scheduled broadcast is not left running unintentionally. Wowza’s guide describes the property and its behavior: Stream a file in Wowza Video.

When a true multi-file schedule is required
Wowza support named Wowza Streaming Engine with its StreamPublisher module as an alternative for playlist scheduling. It is separate from the Wowza Video cloud workflow above, so expect a different product and setup rather than a switch you can enable in the single-file Stream from File procedure. The cited support answer does not provide current StreamPublisher configuration steps; consult current Wowza documentation or support for the required setup and compatibility before committing to it.
Before the broadcast: checks and common failure points
- The source does not load: Verify the URL is correct, the file is hosted using a supported source protocol, and Wowza can access it. Because the file is downloaded after the stream starts, allow time for loading and check Wowza’s stream status or preview.
- The stream is active but YouTube does not receive it: Recheck the current YouTube ingest URL and stream key, and confirm the external RTMP target is configured in Wowza’s live-stream details. Follow YouTube’s current account and live-stream requirements; they are not specified in the Wowza target documentation.
- The video repeats but the playlist does not advance: The loop setting repeats one source file. A sequence of separate clips must be combined into one file for the documented Wowza Video workaround, or handled through a playlist-capable workflow such as the Wowza Streaming Engine option identified by support.
- The stream keeps running and charges continue: A looping source overrides the idle timeout. Stop the transcoder manually when the broadcast is finished.
- The combined MP4 is impractical: The July 2025 Wowza support response warned that file size and length can undermine this workaround. Confirm current limits and consider a separate playlist-capable workflow rather than assuming any combined file will work.
