You can send a prerecorded clip from an Android phone to YouTube Live by playing it on the phone and capturing the screen with Larix Screencaster. Larix Broadcaster is documented for live capture, not as a direct player for a video file saved on your phone. Screen capture may not include the clip’s audio, so test the exact phone and playback app before relying on it.

The setup is: create an encoder-based live stream in YouTube Studio, enter its server URL and stream key in Larix, then play the clip and stream the captured screen. For 720p H.264, YouTube’s current guidance is 3–8 Mbps; Larix’s FAQ gives a 2,000 kbps 720p setting, which is below that range. A low-end phone may not sustain 720p, so test and lower the resolution or frame rate if the stream is unstable.

Can Larix Broadcaster stream a prerecorded file directly?

Softvelum documents Larix Broadcaster for live capture and streaming, including camera capture, audio modes, RTMP output, and recording the resulting stream. Its documentation describes Larix Screencaster separately for capturing Android screen content. It does not establish that Larix Broadcaster can select a local video file as its direct input.

For a clip already on the phone, the documented phone-side approach is to play it in a playback app and stream the phone display using Larix Screencaster. Whether the clip’s internal audio is captured depends on Android, the device, and the playback app; do not assume it will work without a test.

What you need before setting up the stream

  • An Android phone with Android 7.0 or later for Larix Broadcaster. This minimum version does not guarantee that the phone can encode and stream 720p reliably.
  • The prerecorded clip and an Android playback app that can keep playing it during screen capture.
  • Larix Broadcaster for the YouTube encoder connection and Larix Screencaster for capturing the display.
  • A reliable Wi-Fi or cellular connection with upload capacity sufficient for your chosen stream bitrate.
  • Access to YouTube Studio and permission to create an encoder-based live stream.

Softvelum says Android 10 can capture audio from apps that support external recording. Compatibility varies, so confirm sound in YouTube’s preview on the actual setup.

Create a YouTube Live stream and copy its connection details

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder-based live stream and open the Live Control Room.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your stream.
  3. Prefer the RTMPS server URL offered by YouTube when the Larix app you are using supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS as the secure extension to RTMP: YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.

Add the stream key in Larix and capture the clip

  1. In the relevant Larix app, create an RTMP or RTMPS connection using YouTube’s server URL and the stream key. Softvelum documents the conventional RTMP connection structure as the server or app URL followed by the stream name or key: Larix documentation.
  2. Open Larix Screencaster’s screen-capture mode. Do not look for a local-file input in Larix Broadcaster unless your installed version explicitly provides one; direct file input is not established by the cited documentation.
  3. Start the clip in the playback app, then start screen capture and streaming. Check YouTube’s preview for moving picture and sound. If your Live Control Room setup requires it, press the manual go-live control there.
  4. Keep the playback app in the foreground and prevent notifications, sleep, or app switching from interrupting the clip. For a long stream, check battery and heat on the actual phone; no specific accessory or hardware threshold is established here.

Choose 720p settings that the phone and connection can sustain

YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance lists 3–8 Mbps for 720p at both 30 and 60 frames per second, with CBR encoding and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (maximum four seconds). These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a low-end handset can maintain them. See YouTube’s encoder settings.

Softvelum’s Larix FAQ gives 2,000 kbps as a resolution-matched 720p setting. That is the app’s stated value, not YouTube’s current recommended H.264 range. Softvelum also notes that Android devices commonly use VBR, which may rise above the configured bitrate to preserve quality during motion. A configured bitrate therefore may not be a strict ceiling; a device with CBR support is needed when a strict low bitrate is required. See Softvelum’s Larix documentation and FAQ.

Choice What to set or expect Trade-off
720p at 30 fps YouTube H.264 recommendation: 3–8 Mbps; CBR; two-second keyframes recommended, four seconds maximum. Lower frame rate than 60 fps, but still needs a stable upload and capable screen-capture/encoding performance.
720p at 60 fps YouTube H.264 recommendation: 3–8 Mbps; CBR; two-second keyframes recommended, four seconds maximum. More motion detail, but do not assume a low-end phone can sustain the extra workload.
Larix FAQ’s 720p value 2,000 kbps, as stated in Softvelum’s FAQ. Below YouTube’s current 3–8 Mbps H.264 recommendation; test picture quality and stream health rather than treating this as YouTube’s target.
Lower resolution or frame rate Reduce from 720p or 60 fps if the phone, encoder, or connection struggles. Less detail or motion smoothness in exchange for a more manageable stream. The appropriate setting depends on the actual phone and uplink.

H.264/AVC is the straightforward baseline in Larix’s Android documentation, which says H.264 is used throughout; HEVC is described as a premium feature on supported devices. YouTube also supports HEVC and AV1 ingest, but that does not mean this low-end-phone workflow should use them.

Test the exact phone before going live

  1. Make a short private or unlisted test with movement and audio similar to the intended clip.
  2. Check YouTube’s preview for a moving picture and audible clip sound. If audio is missing, the phone or playback app may not permit the screen capture to record internal audio; do not assume another setting will fix it.
  3. Check stream health and upload speed. YouTube says the available upload bandwidth must accommodate the stream bitrate and recommends testing before the event and monitoring health during it.
  4. Watch for interruptions from notifications, sleep, app switching, heat, or battery drain. If the stream drops frames or becomes unstable, try a lower resolution or frame rate and test again.

Troubleshooting common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check
YouTube receives no stream Incorrect server URL or key, unsupported connection type, or the encoder is not sending. Recheck the URL and key in the Larix connection. Use RTMPS if supported by the selected Larix app, and confirm the stream is the one open in Live Control Room.
Picture appears, but the clip is silent Android or the playback app may not allow internal audio capture. Test the same app and phone before going live; inspect the YouTube preview. Audio capture is not universal.
Stream is unstable or drops frames Upload bandwidth, VBR bitrate spikes, or phone encoding performance may be insufficient. Check YouTube stream health, try a lower resolution or frame rate, and repeat the test. The 2,000 kbps Larix value is not the same as YouTube’s 3–8 Mbps H.264 720p recommendation.
Clip stops or screen changes Playback may have been interrupted by sleep, a notification, or switching apps. Keep playback active, avoid app switching, and check the phone’s behavior during a test of similar duration.
Phone gets hot or battery falls quickly Screen capture, playback, and streaming all run on the handset. Test the session length on the actual phone and reduce stream demands if performance degrades. No specific battery accessory or temperature limit is established here.
