To sell streaming videos online, choose how viewers will pay—subscription, rental, one-time purchase, or live pay-per-view—then use a platform that hosts the video, handles access and payments, and delivers playback to your audience. Match the payment model to the content: recurring value suits subscriptions, a finished title suits a sale or rental, and a scheduled live event suits pay-per-view.
Choose what you are selling
Start by defining the product and how long buyers should have access. A single finished film, an ongoing course or library, and a ticketed live event call for different offers.
- Subscription (SVOD): Charge monthly or yearly for a continuing series or a library that keeps delivering value.
- Rental: Give viewers streaming access for a defined period. This fits a one-off title when you do not want to grant permanent access.
- One-time purchase: Charge once for a defined video, course, or film. Specify whether the purchase includes streaming only or a downloadable copy.
- Live pay-per-view (PPV): Sell access to a live event, or to an on-demand collection of past live events.
- Advertising (AVOD): Earn through ads rather than direct viewer payments. Availability and ad-serving requirements vary; this is not automatically practical for a small seller.
Vimeo OTT documents subscriptions, rentals, purchases, and PPV for live events and replay collections. Its advertising option is Enterprise-only; basic ad integration requires Google Ad Manager, and post- or mid-roll ads are limited to sellers with Google Ad Manager 360. Vimeo OTT’s sales-model documentation describes these options and conditions.
Pick a platform that fits the offer
A video storefront is more than a payment button. Compare the services on the operational details that affect the buyer’s experience and your net proceeds.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
- Sales formats: Confirm that the platform supports the combination you need—subscription, rental, purchase, live event, or replay PPV.
- Hosting and delivery: Check how it ingests and transcodes video, serves playback across devices, and provides a storefront or branded viewing destination. Vimeo describes adaptive streaming and a content-management workflow for ingestion and transcoding in its OTT overview. These are provider-described features, not an independent performance test.
- Payments and payouts: Review supported payment methods, payout timing, processing deductions, revenue share, and the actual amount you receive. Compare net proceeds, not just the displayed price.
- Taxes and geography: Ask which customer taxes the platform calculates or collects, where those rules apply, and what filings or income-tax obligations remain yours. Location-based handling of certain indirect taxes does not resolve a seller’s own local tax duties. Vimeo’s OTT glossary describes its terminology and tax handling.
- Downloads and offline viewing: Decide in advance whether the offer is streaming-only or includes a download. Check what happens to download rights if you change the setting after a sale.
- Content protection: Verify the DRM options, supported devices, eligible plans, and setup effort. DRM can restrict authorized playback, but it cannot guarantee that a video will never be copied. Vimeo lists FairPlay, Widevine, and PlayReady; Uscreen describes its DRM as a beta add-on and notes possible playback problems on older devices, software, or restricted networks. See the providers’ Vimeo OTT overview and Uscreen DRM documentation.
- Portability and continuity: Read the shutdown, export, migration, and post-termination access terms before you build a business around a storefront. Confirm whether buyers retain any download access if the service closes.

Do not confuse Vimeo OTT with Vimeo On Demand
Vimeo’s seller instructions say Vimeo On Demand shuts down on November 20, 2026. New subscriptions and renewals were disabled after September 21, 2026. A buyer’s streaming access ends when the service shuts down, although a purchase with downloads enabled can be downloaded to a device. Vimeo also says enabling downloads after a purchase does not retroactively give that buyer download access. Review the current Vimeo On Demand FAQ before selling there or directing existing customers to it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsVimeo’s seller guide gives an illustrative example of about $7.80 net from a $10 Vimeo On Demand sale to a New York viewer, as accessed October 3, 2026. Vimeo attributes the difference to a $0.48 transaction fee, $0.85 applicable tax, and $0.87 revenue share. This is one provider’s example for that location and transaction, not a universal fee schedule or earnings forecast. Consult the current Vimeo seller guidance for the applicable terms.

Set up the offer and test the buyer experience
- Define the product: Decide whether you are selling one title, a course, an ongoing library, a live event, or access to past events. Establish what the buyer gets and for how long.
- Choose the payment model: Use a subscription for continuing value, a rental for time-limited viewing, a purchase for a finished product, or PPV for an event. Consider advertising only if the platform’s eligibility and ad setup make sense for your audience and scale.
- Shortlist services: Compare sales formats, delivery, payment deductions and payout schedule, tax handling, DRM, downloads, and continuity terms. Read the actual plan terms rather than relying only on a feature summary.
- Prepare and upload the video: Add a clear title, description, thumbnail, and any supporting materials the platform accepts. Check the platform’s format and encoding requirements before uploading.
- Configure access and price: Set the subscription period, rental window, purchase rights, or event access. State plainly whether access expires and whether downloads are included; avoid promising an offline copy unless it is enabled.
- Preview playback: Test the public offer page and video on the devices and networks your intended viewers are likely to use. Check sign-in, payment, playback, captions if provided, and the end of a rental or subscription flow.
- Publish and promote: Link to the sales page from your existing audience channels. Explain what the viewer receives, how long access lasts, and what is required to watch.
- Review the statements: Track actual sales, refunds, fees, taxes, and payouts. Use transaction records to assess the offer rather than assuming gross sales equal income.
Account for rights and ongoing costs
Before listing a video, make sure you have the rights needed to sell or stream every included element—such as music, footage, artwork, and performances. A platform’s payment or hosting tools do not establish that you hold those rights. Copyright disputes can disrupt access and sales, so retain licenses and permission records and review the service’s policies.
Model your net proceeds with the platform’s current fees, any recurring plan or service charges, payment deductions, refunds, taxes, and any revenue share. The reviewed provider documentation does not establish a directly comparable total-cost figure across Vimeo OTT and Uscreen; compare the terms for the specific plan and geography you are considering.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your offer includes a YouTube channel that should stay live around the clock with uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate way to keep that channel streaming; it is not a video storefront for selling access to individual viewers. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so no computer, OBS, or home internet connection has to stay on. It streams to YouTube only, not from a camera.
