To self-exclude from online sports betting, register with the official self-exclusion program for the jurisdiction that licenses the betting service. There is no single global register, and one program may not cover every betting or gambling product. Check the operator’s licensing information and your local regulator’s instructions before you enroll.
How to choose the right self-exclusion program
- Identify the jurisdiction. Check the betting service’s licensing information and establish which country, state, or territory regulates the account or product.
- Find that regulator’s official program. Use the regulator’s website to locate the enrollment route, rather than assuming a third-party block covers the operator.
- Check what the program covers. Confirm whether it includes online sports betting, phone wagering, casino games, and the specific operators you use.
- Review duration and removal rules before registering. Minimum periods and early-removal conditions differ by program. Choose a period you understand and can accept.
- Enroll using accurate identity details. Complete the official service’s identity checks and save the confirmation and any instructions it provides.
- Arrange additional support if needed. Self-exclusion is a practical barrier, not a substitute for help with gambling-related harm.

| Australia: BetStop | National register for licensed Australian online and phone wagering providers. Registration is described as taking about five minutes. You need a mobile phone, email access, and an Australian driver licence, passport, or Medicare card; contact the service if you do not have one of those documents. You can nominate up to five support people. BetStop | Choose at least three months, up to lifetime. The Australian Communications and Media Authority says you can extend but cannot shorten the period. Removal cannot be requested in the first three months; an application requires a statutory declaration confirming counselling or advice from a qualified counsellor, psychologist, or doctor. ACMA guidance | Does not cover online casino games or illegally provided gambling services. It does not replace an existing state or territory registration; register with BetStop separately. What happens after you enroll?
Australia: BetStop
BetStop says registered wagering providers should close your accounts and refund any remaining credit. While the registration is active, providers must not accept your bets or send you direct marketing, and they may check customers against the register. If you believe a provider has breached its obligations, use BetStop’s official complaint route. ACMA: BetStop
In 2026, the Australian Government reported that more than 60,000 Australians had registered and over 37,000 registrations were active. These are point-in-time figures for BetStop, not worldwide totals. Australian Government, Gambling Reforms 2026 FAQ
