To search old Cursor conversations, open the Agents Window, open the command palette, and choose conversation search. Cursor’s current help page lists Cmd+Ctrl+K on Mac and Ctrl+K on Windows or Linux. Search is scoped to This Computer, Cloud, or a particular remote machine, so select the environment where the chat was created rather than expecting one search to cover them all.

Search past Cursor conversations in the Agents Window

  1. Open the Cursor window or environment where you expect the conversation.
  2. Open the Agents Window, then open the command palette and choose conversation search. Cursor’s Conversation Search help page lists Cmd+Ctrl+K on Mac and Ctrl+K on Windows or Linux. The July 10, 2026 changelog describes transcript search via Cmd+K; the official sources therefore show different shortcuts. If neither listed shortcut works in your installed version, use the command palette to locate the conversation-search command. Cursor Conversation Search help · Cursor changelog, July 10, 2026
  3. Enter a distinctive phrase from the prompt, response, error, or code symbol you remember.
  4. Choose the relevant search environment: This Computer, Cloud, or the specific remote machine.

Cursor says the feature builds a local search index that scales to thousands of conversations. That is a capacity description, not a published benchmark or a guarantee that every legacy transcript is indexed. The documentation does not specify search ranking or promise indexing coverage for every older chat. Cursor Conversation Search help Cursor changelog

Choose the right scope for a workspace

Conversation search is organized by execution environment, not presented as a single query across every environment. If you worked on a project locally, in Cloud, or on a remote machine, search the corresponding scope. A workspace and its history-search scope are related but not identical: a workspace can include multiple folders, while Cloud Agents do not support multi-root workspaces. Cursor also says some features that depend on a single Git root, such as worktrees, are disabled in multi-root workspaces. Cursor changelog Cursor Search documentation

Use Find for a conversation that is already open

If you have opened the right transcript and want to jump to a phrase inside it, use Cmd+Ctrl+F on Mac or Ctrl+F on Windows or Linux. This searches within the open conversation and lets you move through matches using the match counter; it does not search the collection of past conversations. Cursor History documentation

Find or resume a session from the Cursor CLI

For CLI sessions, Cursor’s release notes say agent ls, agent --resume, and /resume show chats across workspaces by default. Use the This workspace filter to narrow the list; chats from other directories are labeled with their folder. This is a way to find or resume a session by its list entry and context, not a substitute for searching words inside transcripts in the Agents Window. Cursor release notes

If a conversation does not appear

  • Check the environment scope. Try This Computer, Cloud, or the specific remote machine where the conversation took place.
  • Search with a distinctive phrase. Try another remembered prompt fragment, error message, response phrase, or code symbol. Cursor does not document ranking behavior, so a different phrase may help but is not guaranteed to surface a particular result.
  • Use CLI resume for an older CLI session. Run agent ls or use /resume, then check the directory labels and This workspace filter.
  • Distinguish current search from older history behavior. An older Cursor History page describes standard chats in local SQLite history and background-agent chats as remote, opened with Ctrl+E; it also mentions Markdown export. Because that page predates the current conversation-search interface, treat those storage and shortcut details as version-sensitive rather than a complete description of current chat history. Cursor History documentation

Cursor’s community feature-request thread includes September 2026 replies saying a single global view across projects was still unavailable. That does not mean transcript search is absent: the newer official feature searches conversations, but its documented scope is partitioned by computer, Cloud, and remote machine.
