Use a browser automation workflow such as Playwright: validate your URL list, open each page, choose a viewport, full-page, or element capture, and save each image under a unique filename mapped to its source URL. Playwright documents these capture options, but its documentation does not establish whether Amazon.in, Flipkart, or another marketplace permits or reliably supports automated capture. Check the marketplace’s current terms and access controls, then test a small sample before processing a large list.
Choose what part of each product page to capture
Playwright supports screenshots of the visible page, the entire scrollable page, a selected element, or screenshot bytes held in memory. The right scope depends on what you need to review or archive. Playwright’s screenshot guide describes page, full-page, buffer, and element capture.
| Scope | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Viewport | You need the area visible without scrolling, such as the initial product image and headline. | Details farther down the page are not included. |
| Full page | Important content may appear below the first screen and you want the scrollable page in one image. | The resulting image may be tall; it cannot be combined with an element target in a single capture. |
| Element | You want a specific region, such as a product-information panel, rather than the whole page. | You must identify the element in the page; it is not a full-page capture. |
| In-memory bytes | Your workflow needs to process or store the image itself rather than write it directly to a file. | You need to handle the returned bytes in your application. |
The Playwright MCP screenshot reference also lists PNG, JPEG, and WebP formats, CSS or device scaling, and filename behavior. These options are documented capabilities, not a recommendation that one format or scale is best for every job. See Playwright MCP screenshot options.
Prepare a URL list and a traceable output scheme
Put one product-page URL per line in a text file, such as urls.txt. Before starting, remove blank lines, verify that each entry is a complete URL, and decide which capture scope and image type you need. Give every result a stable, unique filename and keep a record linking that filename to the original URL. This avoids confusing products when several pages are captured in one run.

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
- Use a stable identifier or sequence number in each filename, such as
0001.webp, and keep the source URL in a separate manifest. - Record failures separately instead of silently treating a missing image as a successful capture.
- Begin with a few representative pages and inspect the output before increasing the batch size.
Capture a batch with Playwright
The following Node.js example uses Playwright’s page screenshot capability and writes one PNG per URL. It is a starting workflow, not a marketplace-tested recipe: a page may render differently, require a session, or block automated access. The script records navigation and screenshot errors in a failure log and continues to the next URL.
- Install Playwright: in a new project, run
npm init -yandnpm install playwright. Install a browser supported by the installed Playwright package withnpx playwright install chromium. - Save the URLs: create
urls.txtin the project directory, with one URL on each line. - Save this script as
capture.mjs:import { chromium } from 'playwright'; import { readFile, mkdir, writeFile } from 'node:fs/promises'; const lines = (await readFile('urls.txt', 'utf8')) .split(/r?n/) .map(line => line.trim()) .filter(Boolean); const urls = []; for (const [index, value] of lines.entries()) { try { const parsed = new URL(value); if (!['http:', 'https:'].includes(parsed.protocol)) throw new Error('Use http or https'); urls.push({ index: index + 1, url: parsed.href }); } catch (error) { console.error(`Invalid URL on line ${index + 1}: ${value} (${error.message})`); } } await mkdir('screenshots', { recursive: true }); const failures = []; const browser = await chromium.launch({ headless: true }); try { const page = await browser.newPage({ viewport: { width: 1365, height: 900 } }); for (const item of urls) { const name = `${String(item.index).padStart(4, '0')}.png`; try { await page.goto(item.url, { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded', timeout: 45000 }); await page.screenshot({ path: `screenshots/${name}`, fullPage: true }); console.log(`Saved ${name} for ${item.url}`); } catch (error) { failures.push(`${name}t${item.url}t${error.message}`); console.error(`Failed ${item.url}: ${error.message}`); } } } finally { await browser.close(); await writeFile('failures.tsv', failures.join('n') + (failures.length ? 'n' : '')); } - Run it: use
node capture.mjs. Images go intoscreenshots/; failures and their source URLs go intofailures.tsv.
The sample uses full-page PNG captures and a fixed viewport for repeatability. Change fullPage: true to fullPage: false for a viewport capture. For an element capture, use Playwright’s locator screenshot method and select the page element appropriate to the site; do not combine that operation with full-page capture. The product-page markup and selectors can vary, so identify and verify a suitable element on the specific page before relying on it.

The example waits for domcontentloaded to avoid waiting indefinitely for every network request to stop. That does not guarantee that client-rendered product details, images, or price widgets are ready. If the part you need loads later, wait for a relevant visible selector or use a short, justified delay, then inspect sample images. Avoid assuming one wait condition works for every marketplace page.

Use Playwright’s CLI for one-off captures
For a single page or a small number of manual commands, Playwright’s CLI offers a screenshot command with filename, image-format, viewport, and full-page controls. Its documented default filename is timestamp-based when you omit a name; for batches, provide explicit unique names and retain a URL-to-file mapping. Check the installed CLI’s current syntax in the Playwright CLI screenshot reference, since command options can change across versions.

Replace PRODUCT_ID with a product identifier and YOUR_API_KEY with your key. For a list, call the endpoint once per URL and save each response under a unique filename while keeping a URL-to-file manifest. Check marketplace terms and access controls before sending requests; using an API does not establish that a marketplace allows automated capture.

Handle failures and keep the batch auditable
- Navigation times out: the site may be slow, the request may be blocked, or the page may keep network activity open. Try a small sample, use a wait condition suited to the content you need, and review whether the page actually loaded before adjusting a timeout.
- Image exists but content is missing: the page may render key elements after the initial document load. Wait for a specific relevant element or an appropriate delay, then inspect the capture. A generic network-idle wait is not proof that marketplace content is complete.
- Unexpected challenge or access page: stop and review the marketplace’s current terms and access controls. Do not infer permission or reliable access from Playwright’s ability to open a browser page.
- Wrong file or overwritten image: ensure each input has a unique output name; retain the source URL alongside it. Avoid timestamp defaults when you need a deterministic batch mapping.
- Element capture fails: the selector may not match the current page. Inspect the page and choose a verified element; use a viewport or full-page capture if an isolated region is not essential.
- Full-page capture conflicts with a target: choose one scope for the operation. Playwright MCP documentation states that full-page capture cannot be combined with an element target.
Batch size, image volume, and reliability
Neither the cited Playwright documentation nor the available marketplace-specific evidence establishes a safe request rate, a success rate, or how consistently Indian marketplace pages render under automation. Start with a small sample, monitor failures, and scale only after checking the applicable site rules and output quality. No measured performance or marketplace compatibility should be inferred from the example script.
Full-page images can be substantially taller than viewport captures, while PNG, JPEG, and WebP have different image characteristics. Choose a format and scale based on the fidelity and file-size needs of your own workflow, then verify representative output. Playwright documentation describes CSS-pixel versus device-pixel scaling in its MCP screenshot reference but does not prescribe a universal setting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture the full page and a product element in the same Playwright screenshot?
