To capture Google results with both ads and organic listings visible, fit the search query, a result labeled “Sponsored,” and at least one organic result into a readable browser view, then take a screenshot. Use a full-page capture only when you need results below the viewport; it may make the labels and text harder to read.
Take a readable screenshot of ads and organic results
- Open Google and search for the query you want to document. Wait for the results page to finish loading.
- Adjust the browser window or zoom so the query, a result visibly labeled “Sponsored,” and at least one organic result fit on screen at readable size. Ads can appear in different positions, so identify them by the label visible in your capture, not by where you expect them to appear.
- Capture the visible screen using the shortcut for your operating system:
- Windows: Press Windows+Print Screen.
- Mac: Press Command+Shift+3 to capture the screen, or Command+Shift+4 to select an area.
- Open the saved image and check that the query, “Sponsored” label, and organic result are legible and visible together.
Google describes an organic result as “A free listing in Google Search that appears because it’s relevant to someone’s search terms.” It identifies paid advertisements as non-organic results and describes ads above organic results as carrying a “Sponsored” box. Choose a capture type

Capture a full page with Chrome DevTools
Chrome DevTools includes a full-size screenshot command. Opening DevTools is a separate step; there is no single universal screenshot shortcut for the full-page capture.
- Open DevTools: press Command+Option+I on Mac, or F12 / Control+Shift+I on Windows or Linux. Chrome DevTools keyboard shortcuts
- Open the DevTools command interface and search for Capture full size screenshot.
- Select that command, then open the resulting image and check that the relevant labels remain legible.
If the command is not listed under that exact name, search the current DevTools command menu for screenshot options; the menu can differ between Chrome versions and DevTools interfaces.
Preserve context when the screenshot is evidence
- Keep the screenshot unaltered when you are using it as evidence. If you crop it for publication, retain the query, “Sponsored” label, and enough nearby results to make their relationship clear.
- Record the capture date and relevant search context for a report or comparison.
- Google Search lets users configure language and location. A screenshot documents one particular search context; it does not guarantee another viewer will see the same result ordering.
