Set the browser context’s timezone to Asia/Kolkata before navigating to the app, then ask your AI browser agent to capture the viewport, an element, or the full page. Set the locale separately: use en-IN only when you want Indian English language and formatting behavior. The steps below use Playwright; they affect browser-side time, not the test runner’s timezone.
Configure the browser for Mumbai before loading the app
Use the IANA timezone identifier Asia/Kolkata for Mumbai rather than hard-coding an offset such as UTC+05:30. A named timezone uses location-specific rules; IANA periodically updates its timezone database. Its database release 2026c was published on 2026-07-08. IANA Time Zone Database
Timezone and locale are independent browser settings. The timezone controls browser-context date and time behavior; the locale controls language and formatting preferences. Configure both before opening the application, because the app may read them during its initial render.
Playwright browser-context example
This is an illustrative workflow, not a script tested against your specific app. It assumes you already have a Playwright browser instance and have installed the Playwright package in your project.

const context = await browser.newContext({
locale: 'en-IN',
timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata',
});
const page = await context.newPage();
await page.goto('https://your-app.example');
await page.screenshot({ path: 'mumbai-app.png', fullPage: true });Replace https://your-app.example with your app’s URL. Playwright documents locale and timezoneId as browser emulation options. They can be configured for a browser context or overridden for an individual test. See Playwright emulation.
Ask the AI agent for the right kind of screenshot
Pick the capture scope based on what you need to inspect. Playwright’s MCP guide documents a browser_take_screenshot tool with a target for an element, a fullPage option, a filename, and image output types including PNG, JPEG, and WebP. If you are using another agent or client, check its screenshot tool’s own parameters rather than assuming they match Playwright MCP.

- Viewport: capture the currently visible browser area for a quick check of the screen as rendered.
- Element: set the tool’s
targetto focus on a component such as a form, dialog, or banner. - Full page: use
fullPage: trueto capture the full scrollable page. In Playwright MCP, this cannot be combined with an elementtarget.
Navigate to the screen that matters, wait for its relevant state (for example, a dialog or data-loaded condition), and then capture it. Choose a clear filename and supported format. Playwright MCP can infer the output type from the filename extension where possible and defaults to PNG.
Keep browser time separate from runner and server time
timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata' configures the browser context; it does not change the timezone of the Node.js process running your tests. If runner-side code must use Mumbai time, configure the runner’s TZ environment variable independently. Also verify where the app’s displayed timestamp comes from: a server-generated value, account preference, or application logic may not follow browser timezone emulation alone.

Use screenshots for appearance, not as the interaction map
A screenshot is visual evidence of the rendered page: use it to inspect layout, styling, and what a user sees. For locating controls or operating the page, use the agent’s browser or accessibility snapshot instead. Playwright’s MCP guide puts it plainly: “Screenshots are for looking at, not for acting on — use browser_snapshot to get refs to interact with.” Playwright documentation
Playwright describes its browser emulation as a way to test apps across browsers and emulate real devices such as phones and tablets. The timezone workflow here is browser-context emulation; it is not proof that your app’s backend or stored data uses Mumbai time.

Troubleshoot timezone and capture problems
- The page still shows another time: confirm the context was created with
timezoneId: 'Asia/Kolkata'before navigation. Check whether the timestamp is rendered by the server or derived from an account-level setting. - Dates or numbers use unexpected formatting: check
localeseparately fromtimezoneId. Useen-INonly if Indian English locale behavior is intended. - Test logs still use the machine’s timezone: browser emulation does not set the test runner timezone; configure
TZfor runner-side code as needed. - The screenshot omits lower content: use the full-page option rather than a viewport capture. For Playwright MCP, do not combine
fullPage: truewith an elementtarget. - The agent cannot interact using the screenshot: use the browser snapshot to obtain interaction references; retain the screenshot for visual review.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its API returns a screenshot or PDF from one GET request; the API supports custom timezone and geolocation options. For browser-context-specific testing, use the Playwright workflow above; the API is an alternative when you want a hosted capture request.
