To document an airline fare, capture the exact itinerary and the full price conditions—not just the headline amount—and save the original screenshot with its capture date and time. Then track the route or selected flight in Google Flights and recheck the same bookable offer with the seller before you buy or submit a price-match claim.
How do I screenshot an airline ticket price?
- Search the exact trip. Note the origin and destination airports, travel dates, passenger count and types, cabin, stops, flight numbers, and seller. If your dates are flexible, record that; fares for different dates are not the same offer.
- Open the fare details or checkout page. Keep the page identity and URL visible where practical. Make sure the displayed offer is still available to book.
- Frame the relevant details. Include the itinerary, total and per-person price, currency, taxes and fees, fare class or brand, baggage and other inclusions, and booking or cancellation restrictions. If you may use the image as claim evidence, include a visible device date and time when the airline requires it.
- Capture the screen using your device’s built-in tool. On Mac, press Shift-Command-3 for the full screen, Shift-Command-4 to select an area, or Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot on macOS Mojave 10.14 or later. Apple says the default filename includes the date and time, but a timestamp in the filename may not meet a policy that requires it to appear in the image itself. Apple’s Mac screenshot instructions describe the shortcuts and filename behavior. Qantas lists PrtScr or Alt-PrtScr for Windows, volume-down plus power on Android, and volume-up plus lock on iOS for its claim workflow; shortcuts can vary by device and operating-system version. Check Qantas’s instructions or your device’s current help if a shortcut differs.
- Save an unaltered original. Keep the original image and filename. If you crop or annotate a copy for easier reading, retain the original too. Avoid capturing payment-card details or other sensitive information.
These are sensible recordkeeping steps, not a universal evidentiary standard. A carrier’s own claim terms determine what it accepts.

What should a flight price screenshot show?
- Origin, destination, dates, direction, routing, flight numbers, and operating itinerary
- Passenger count and passenger types, cabin, fare class or brand, and seller
- Total price and per-person price, currency, taxes, mandatory charges, and booking or service fees
- Baggage, seats, and other included services, plus booking and cancellation restrictions
- Capture date and time if you need to compare a changing fare or a policy asks for a visible timestamp
Make the details legible and keep enough context to identify the website or booking page. Do not treat two fares as equivalent merely because their headline prices look similar: check the itinerary, fare conditions, included services, seller, and all charges.

Possibly, but only if the airline’s current rules accept the competing offer and your evidence satisfies its requirements. Screenshot rules are carrier- and country-specific, so read the terms for the exact booking channel and fare before relying on an image.

Qantas Australia’s Price Promise: a specific example
Qantas Australia’s Price Promise illustrates how demanding a claim process can be; it is not a universal airline rule. Its policy asks for screenshots showing the device date and time, competitor website URL and logo, matching Qantas flight details, taxes, fare class, rules and restrictions, total fare per person on the final checkout or payment page, and passenger count and types. The images must be taken on the same calendar day and after the Qantas booking, saved as PNG or JPG, and be no larger than 2 MB each. The policy permits up to five images and recommends desktop or laptop capture where the necessary information can be shown together. See the current Qantas Price Promise terms before making a claim.
For this Australian program, Qantas says the original ticket must be bought and paid for on qantas.com or its app in AUD; the trip must depart Australia and use Qantas flight numbers. The comparison must be an identical fare publicly available from an Australian online travel agency operating under an active ABN/ACN, without hidden booking or service fees. The claim deadline is midnight AEST/AEDT on the same calendar day as the direct booking. Qantas also specifies a minimum A$5 saving per booking. These conditions apply to this program, not to airline claims generally.
Qantas says a claim may be rejected if flight inclusions differ, screenshot requirements are not met, or a third-party page shows a representative fare that cannot actually be booked and paid for. It excludes metasearch-only fares such as Google Flights from its comparison process. Google Flights can help you find and track prices, but a tracked result is not necessarily an eligible, bookable comparison offer. Qantas writes, “The screenshots you share with your claim are essential in helping us assess whether the claim is successful.”

How do I track flight prices?
Set a Google Flights alert
- Search your route and dates in Google Flights.
- Turn on tracking for the route and exact dates, or choose “Any dates” if you are flexible. You can also track a selected flight.
- Check your email for price updates. Google says “Any dates” tracking sends an email when the route minimum drops significantly over a month; if there is no sufficiently large drop, it sends a regular email with the best available prices. Google also describes alerts when a tracked route is likely to rise or a fare is nearing expiry and likely to cost more.
- Before booking, open the seller’s current offer and verify its price, availability, itinerary, and fare conditions.
Google’s notifications report changes; they do not promise that a fare will remain available or that an alert is the lowest bookable price. See Google’s instructions for tracking flights and prices.
Keep a simple manual log
A spreadsheet or note can complement alerts. Record the capture date and time, route and dates, flight number, seller, total price, fare conditions, and screenshot filename. This makes it easier to distinguish a real price change from a different itinerary, seller, or fare bundle.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo
For a programmatic capture, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. For an airline page, adapt the target URL to the page you want to capture and use your API key:
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Automated screenshots are useful for records, but they do not replace a carrier’s required visible details or prove that a fare remains bookable. Common problems and fixes
- The screenshot shows only a headline fare. Expand the fare details or continue to the final checkout page if appropriate, then capture the taxes, fees, inclusions, and restrictions too.
- The timestamp is only in the filename. If the airline requires a visible date and time in the image, capture the screen with the device clock visible; do not assume the filename is sufficient.
- The cheaper fare cannot be purchased. Recheck the seller’s page and availability. A representative or metasearch result may not be a live bookable offer, and some airline claim policies exclude it.
- The images do not meet a carrier’s upload rules. Check the allowed format, file-size limit, number of images, timing, and required fields in the current policy. For Qantas Price Promise, the stated limits include PNG or JPG, up to 2 MB per image, and up to five images.
- The prices differ but the comparison seems unclear. Verify airports, dates, flight numbers, passenger types, fare class, baggage, other inclusions, seller, currency, taxes, and fees before calling it the same fare.
