If you are viewing a return preview in India’s Income Tax e-Filing portal and see a Download button, use it to save the portal-generated PDF. For other pages, Chrome’s Print → Save as PDF creates a printable document, while a literal screenshot captures the visible pixels and must be converted to PDF separately.
Choose the right kind of PDF
“Screenshot as PDF” can mean two different things. Printing a webpage to PDF creates a paginated print layout that may reflow or omit screen controls and dynamic content. A screenshot records what is visibly displayed; converting it to PDF preserves that image, not a reflowable document. The portal’s own return-preview download is a third option: a PDF generated by the portal for that specific workflow.

Download a return preview from the Income Tax portal
The Income Tax Department’s Step by Step Guide – Fill Income-tax Return (May 2021) says that at Step 16, users can “Download” or “Print” the preview, and that the downloaded preview is in PDF format. This is guidance for the return-preview stage, not a promise that every page has a download option.
- Sign in to the official Income Tax e-Filing portal and navigate through the filing workflow to the return preview.
- If that preview displays Download, select it to save the portal-generated PDF. Follow the current portal labels if the interface has changed since the 2021 guide.
- Open the saved file and check that the pages and details you need are present before relying on or sharing it.
Save another portal page as a PDF in Chrome on desktop
- Open the page and wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Open the print dialog with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or ⌘+P on Mac.
- Choose a PDF destination, commonly labeled Save as PDF, then review the preview and available print settings.
- Save the file, open it, and inspect each page. If the print preview is incomplete, check whether that particular portal screen offers its own download control; otherwise, capture a screenshot image and convert it to PDF if you need a visual record.
Chrome’s official instructions describe the print workflow, but the exact destination and settings can differ with the operating system and Chrome version: Print from Chrome.

Save a page as PDF in Chrome on Android
- Open the webpage in Chrome.
- Tap More → Share → Print.
- Choose Save as PDF, select where to save the file, and tap Print.
These are the labels in Chrome Help; menus can shift with Chrome and Android versions. See Google’s instructions for printing from Chrome.
When you need a literal screenshot rather than a print layout
Use a screenshot when the appearance on screen matters—for example, when controls, spacing, or a particular visible state are part of the record. A screen capture generally covers only the visible area, so a long page may need multiple captures. Put the resulting screenshot image or images into a PDF using a PDF tool available on your device, then open the PDF to verify the result. The portal and Chrome instructions cited above document download and printing workflows; they do not establish a portal-wide screenshot-to-PDF function.

Check the file and protect tax information
- Confirm the PDF opens and includes the required pages, tables, and details.
- For a print-generated PDF, review page breaks and any content that may have been omitted or rearranged.
- Save tax documents somewhere you control, and verify the recipient before sharing; these files may contain sensitive personal and financial information.
