1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo screenshot a web page in Android Chrome with Selenium, connect Selenium to the Android browser through a compatible mobile automation setup—commonly Appium—navigate to the page, wait for the content you need, and call Selenium’s screenshot API. The ordinary screenshot call captures the current browser window or viewport, not a guaranteed full-page image. Appium’s capture scope also depends on whether the session is in web or native context.
What you need for an Android Selenium screenshot
Selenium’s basic screenshot examples show how to save an image, but a desktop example such as webdriver.Chrome() does not configure an Android device. For an Android capture, first establish a mobile automation session that reaches the target browser. A common architecture uses Appium to manage the mobile session and the browser’s automation driver to control the page.
Choose an Android emulator or a physical device, and use a browser and mobile automation driver compatible with the versions installed in your environment. There is no universal version pairing established here, so check the current setup documentation for your Appium release and driver rather than copying legacy capabilities blindly. Appium’s legacy desired-capabilities page mentions settings such as chromedriverExecutable and nativeWebScreenshot; treat those details as version-sensitive: Appium Desired Capabilities.
Capture the current Android browser window
- Start the mobile session. Configure Appium and its browser automation driver for your Android emulator or connected device, then create a Selenium-compatible WebDriver session. The exact capabilities and driver installation depend on your versions.
- Switch to the browser’s web context. When using Appium, select the web context if you want the browser window. In native context, Appium documents a device viewport capture instead.
- Open the target page and wait for the intended state. Wait for the page content and dynamic elements that matter to appear. There is no single readiness condition that suits every page; choose one tied to the page you are capturing.
- Save a screenshot. Call the screenshot method on the active WebDriver session and write the returned image to a PNG file.
- Check the result. Confirm that the file contains the expected screen and that the session was in the intended context.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android.You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
from selenium import webdriver
driver = webdriver.Chrome()
driver.get("https://example.com")
driver.save_screenshot("./screenshot.png")
driver.quit()
This standalone example demonstrates Selenium’s screenshot call; it does not connect to Android. In an Android workflow, use the WebDriver session created by your mobile automation setup in place of webdriver.Chrome(). Selenium’s documentation describes saving the current window with save_screenshot(path): Working with windows and tabs.
Java equivalent
For a Java WebDriver session, Selenium documents the following capture call:

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
File screenshot = ((TakesScreenshot) driver).getScreenshotAs(OutputType.FILE);
Copy or save the returned file to the destination you want. As with Python, driver must be the session connected to the Android browser, not an unrelated desktop session. See Selenium’s WebDriver documentation.
Viewport, browser window, and full-page screenshots
Do not assume Selenium’s ordinary screenshot call captures an entire long page. The WebDriver screenshot endpoint captures the current browsing context and returns a Base64-encoded PNG; that establishes a current-context capture, not a portable full-page method. See Appium’s WebDriver Protocol.

Appium distinguishes the target by context: its screenshot documentation describes a viewport capture in native context on Android and a window capture in web context. The page is archived stable documentation, so verify context-specific behavior against your installed Appium version: Appium Screenshot.
If you need the whole page, investigate a browser-specific full-page capture feature or scroll-and-stitch approach and verify it with the exact browser, driver, and page. Scrolling and stitching can require extra handling for sticky elements, lazy-loaded content, and pages that change while scrolling; the ordinary screenshot call does not promise to solve those cases.
Emulator or physical Android device?
Use an emulator when you need repeatable control over screen size and state. Use a physical device when you need to validate a real handset and browser combination. An emulator can help test responsive layouts, but it is not evidence of a screenshot taken from Android Chrome on a handset. A physical Android phone is optional, not a requirement for every workflow; weigh the real-device validation you need against the added setup and maintenance.

Troubleshooting Android Selenium screenshots
- The image shows the wrong screen or only the app viewport: Check the Appium context. Native context captures the Android viewport; web context captures the browser window according to Appium’s screenshot documentation. Switch to the context matching the result you need.
- The screenshot is blank or blocked: The page or Android app may use
FLAG_SECURE, which Appium warns can prevent screenshots. A blocked capture may be a platform security restriction rather than a Selenium API defect. - The page is incomplete or a popup is missing: The capture may have occurred before the relevant content rendered. Wait for the specific element or page state you need before calling the screenshot API.
- The screenshot call works on desktop but not on Android: A desktop Selenium example only demonstrates the API shape. Confirm that your driver is actually connected to an Android browser session through your mobile automation setup.
- The Android browser session will not start: Check that Appium, the Android browser, and the browser automation driver are compatible with one another. There is no universal version combination; validate setup and capabilities against the current documentation for the versions you installed.
- The image stops at the visible portion of a long page: That is consistent with a current-window or viewport screenshot. Use and test a browser-specific full-page method or a scrolling-and-stitching workflow if a full-page artifact is required.
Or skip the browser setup
For a screenshot API instead of configuring an Android browser session, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and returns an image or PDF. This captures a website through the API rather than a screenshot from your particular Android device, so use Selenium/Appium when real-device browser validation is the goal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Selenium’s screenshot API return a PNG?
The WebDriver screenshot endpoint returns a Base64-encoded PNG; Selenium also documents file-saving methods for Python and Java.
Can desktop mobile emulation prove what Android Chrome will capture?
No. Emulating mobile dimensions in a desktop browser can help inspect responsive layout, but it is not a capture from Android Chrome on a device.
