If you need a screenshot of only what is currently on screen, use your Chromebook’s built-in Screen Capture tool. If you need one image containing the entire long, scrolling webpage, the built-in full-screen option does not do that; an optional Chrome extension such as GoFullPage advertises full-page capture, but check your school’s rules before installing anything.
Choose the result you need
| Method | What you get | Install anything? |
|---|---|---|
| Chromebook Screen Capture | An image of the display, a selected area, or a window—not the entire scrollable page in one image. | No |
| GoFullPage extension | The Chrome Web Store listing advertises a full-page capture, with PNG, JPG, and PDF export. | Yes; school policy may restrict extensions. |
| Chrome print workflow | A printed page or document/PDF route, not a screenshot image. | No separate extension is indicated by the cited shortcut guide. |
Google’s documented built-in capture modes are full screen, partial area, and window. “Full screen” means the displayed screen, not a stitched image of the whole webpage. See Google’s Chromebook screenshot instructions.
Take a screenshot with the built-in Chromebook tool
- Open the webpage and bring the content you want into view.
- Press Shift + Ctrl + Show windows to open Screen Capture. If your Chromebook has a dedicated screenshot key, Google says to use it. You can also open Screen Capture from the quick settings menu. If you are unsure about your keyboard layout, use the menu.
- Choose Full screen, Partial screenshot, or Window screenshot. For a partial capture, select the region. Google’s guide also describes using Space to change capture mode and keyboard controls to adjust the selection size.
- Open the saved image from Downloads, the default save location. The screenshot is also copied to the clipboard. Use Screen Capture settings to choose a different save folder.
Google’s Chromebook keyboard shortcut guide also lists Ctrl + Show windows for a screenshot and Shift + Ctrl + Show windows for a partial screenshot. Shortcut behavior can be easier to identify through the Screen Capture controls if your model’s keys differ. See Chromebook keyboard shortcuts.

Capture the entire long webpage as one image
The built-in Screen Capture tool is appropriate for what is visible on the display, a selected region, or a window. Its documented modes do not capture the entire scrollable webpage as one image. For that specific output, the Chrome Web Store listing for GoFullPage advertises full-page capture and PNG, JPG, and PDF exports.
- Check your school’s acceptable-use rules and whether students may install Chrome extensions.
- Review the extension’s requested permissions before installation.
- If installation is blocked or you are uncertain, ask the school administrator rather than trying to bypass device controls.
The listing describes the extension’s advertised capabilities; it does not establish that it is approved by your school or that it will capture every webpage correctly. Google documents that administrators can disable Screencast for managed users, illustrating that school-managed Chromebooks can have controls; that does not establish any particular school’s extension policy. See Google’s administrator information.

Use print or save when an image is not required
If the assignment accepts a document instead of a screenshot, Chrome’s shortcut guide lists Ctrl + P to print the current page and Ctrl + S to save it. These are print and save options, not screenshot commands. What appears in print or how a page saves can depend on the webpage. See ChromeOS keyboard shortcuts.

For a developer workflow that needs a webpage screenshot returned by an API, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and can return PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its cleanup options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents and other MCP clients. Common problems
- The screenshot shows only the part I can see. That is expected for the built-in full-screen mode. Use an approved full-page extension if you need one image of the scrolling page.
- I can’t find the image. Check Downloads first; that is the default folder. The screenshot is also copied to the clipboard, and Screen Capture settings let you change the save location.
- The shortcut does not match my keyboard. Open Screen Capture from quick settings or use a dedicated screenshot key if your Chromebook has one.
- I can’t install a full-page extension. The device or school policy may restrict installation. Ask the administrator; use the built-in capture for visible content or Ctrl + P if a document is acceptable.
- The extension does not capture a particular page as expected. The store listing does not guarantee results on every page. Follow school policy and use another permitted method if the result is incomplete.
