Dismiss the OneTrust banner with its close or dismiss control, keep the same signed-in browser context, then capture the page. Closing is not the same as accepting or rejecting cookies: OneTrust says its close action applies the configured default consent model. For a repeatable capture, restore your authenticated Playwright state, dismiss the banner through the site’s actual control, wait for the page to be ready, and call page.screenshot().
Dismiss the banner without changing the consent choice
Use the site’s close (×) or equivalent dismiss control if your goal is to clear the overlay without actively choosing Accept All or Reject All. OneTrust distinguishes these actions: its Web CMP documentation describes OneTrust.Close() as dismissing the banner and setting the configured default consent model; OneTrust’s banner guidance says the close button is designed to close without actively accepting or rejecting cookies. Choose Accept All or Reject All only if that is the user’s actual consent choice.
Take a one-off screenshot manually
- Open the site in the browser profile where you are signed in, then navigate to the page you need.
- When the banner appears, inspect its controls and use the close/dismiss control—not Accept All—if you intend only to dismiss it.
- Confirm that the banner and any blocking overlay have disappeared and that the account is still signed in.
- Scroll or resize the browser to the desired view. Use the browser’s screenshot facility or operating-system screenshot shortcut for the visible viewport. If you need content below the fold, use a full-page capture option if your browser or capture tool provides one.
- Review the resulting image for account identifiers, personal information, or other details you should not share.
Automate the capture with Playwright
Playwright can save browser authentication state after a sign-in setup and reuse it in a later context. Its state file can contain cookies and headers capable of impersonating the account, so keep it private and out of source control. See Playwright’s authentication guide.
The following is a JavaScript example for an existing Playwright setup. Set targetUrl to the page you need. The close-button locator is illustrative: inspect the target site’s accessible UI and replace it with a locator that matches the actual control.

await context.close();OneTrust deployments and templates differ. If the site explicitly exposes and supports the public OneTrust API, OneTrust.Close() is a documented dismissal method, but it may not be available on every page or at the same time. Do not call OneTrust.AllowAll() or OneTrust.RejectAll() unless that consent choice is intended. See the OneTrust Web CMP method documentation.
Viewport or full page?
By default, page.screenshot() captures the current page view. Set fullPage: true to capture the full scrollable document. Full-page output can be much taller than the viewport, so choose it when below-the-fold content matters. Playwright documents the option in its Page API.

Wait for the page you need, not just the banner
A vanished banner does not prove that the logged-in content has finished loading. Where possible, wait for a site-specific element that confirms the target page is ready before capturing. The right selector depends on the site; no universal OneTrust or account-content selector applies to every deployment.

Banner persistence depends on the site’s consent configuration, consent cookies, and browser behavior. OneTrust identifies cookies such as OptanonConsent and OptanonAlertBoxClosed; deleting them or clearing browser data can cause the banner to appear again. Its persistence guidance describes a seven-day prompting interval for Safari/iOS in the cited scenario. Treat that as scenario-specific behavior, not a universal interval for every site or browser.
Troubleshooting
- The close-button click times out or finds nothing: The banner’s label, role, or markup may differ from the example. Inspect the rendered page and use a locator matching the real accessible name and control. The banner may also not be present in the current session.
- The banner disappears, but logged-in content does not load: Dismissing consent and authenticating are separate concerns. Check that the saved state belongs to the correct account and domain, and wait for a page-specific readiness condition before taking the screenshot.
- You are signed out in the new Playwright context: The state file may be stale, incomplete, or for a different site context. Sign in again through the site’s normal flow, save fresh state, and protect that file as a credential.
- The banner returns after clearing data: Clearing browser data can remove consent cookies as well as other site state. Restore the desired consent state through the site’s normal interface; do not assume a prior dismissal persists after those cookies are removed.
- The screenshot contains only the visible area: Use
fullPage: truefor Playwright’s full scrollable-page capture, or use a capture method that explicitly supports full-page output. - The screenshot still shows an overlay: Verify that you dismissed the actual banner and any separate blocking overlay, then wait for the relevant UI to disappear before capturing. Do not conceal an overlay to bypass a required user interaction.
