To schedule songs and show viewers the current song and artist on a 24/7 YouTube music stream, set up two separate systems: a playlist or player controls what plays and when; a metadata source identifies the active track; and an encoder such as OBS displays that information in the video. Scheduling a YouTube live event does not schedule its individual songs, and the event title is not a per-track label.

Understand what needs to be scheduled

YouTube models a broadcast and its incoming feed as separate resources. A liveBroadcast is the viewer-facing event; a liveStream is the audio-video feed sent to YouTube. You can create a broadcast with a title, scheduled start time, and privacy status; the documented example also allows a category. These settings schedule the event, not a sequence of tracks. See YouTube Live Streaming API Reference and YouTube Live Streaming API Overview.

For song scheduling, use a player or playlist system that determines the track order, start times, and transitions. For the on-screen label, use metadata from the player that is actually playing the audio, then pass it to a graphic or text overlay in the outgoing video. These jobs are connected, but neither YouTube’s event title nor its broadcast scheduling API replaces the playlist or now-playing display.

Build the schedule and now-playing display

  1. Create or schedule the YouTube event

In YouTube’s API model, create a liveBroadcast with the event title, scheduled start time, and privacy status you need. Specify a category if appropriate. Set up the incoming liveStream separately and connect it to the broadcast according to YouTube’s broadcasts and streams implementation guide. If you use YouTube Studio rather than the API, configure the event there; the API resource names explain the underlying distinction.

  2. Configure the player or playlist

Load the songs into the playback system and set the sequence, timing, and transitions there. Confirm that it can keep playing the intended schedule, including what happens at the end of a playlist and after a restart. The reviewed YouTube documentation explains broadcast and feed management, not a built-in scheduler for individual music tracks. Do not assume that scheduling a YouTube event also creates a song schedule.

  3. Read track details from the active player

Use metadata associated with the player that is producing the audio rather than manually timing labels against a separate schedule. A community-listed VLC integration for OBS describes reading ID3 tags such as title, artist, and album for supported audio formats, formatting the text, and optionally exporting the current song to a text file. It is one setup example, not an official OBS compatibility guarantee. Check the integration’s current availability, supported formats, and compatibility before relying on it: VLC Now Playing Monitor – Metadata Display.

  4. Put the metadata in the outgoing video

Add a text or graphic overlay in your encoder and connect it to the current-track information from the player. Test that the title and artist change at actual track transitions, including skips and restarts, and that the text is readable in the final video. The exact connection depends on the player, metadata integration, and encoder you choose; the community example demonstrates one possible approach, not a universal workflow.

  5. Test the whole chain before relying on it

Preview or make a controlled test of playback, metadata, overlay, encoder, and YouTube event together. Check that the displayed song matches the audio after a transition, not just at startup. Also test what happens if playback or the encoder restarts. A correctly scheduled event alone does not establish that the player, metadata display, or feed will continue without interruption.

Keep recurring events and continuous playback distinct

YouTube documents a recurring-event architecture in which one liveStream can be bound to multiple scheduled liveBroadcast resources, with only one event live at a time. Its guide also describes a 24/7 broadcast continuing as events change. This is an API architecture pattern; it does not guarantee that a particular encoder or playlist will recover from a failure or that song labels will remain synchronized. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

When choosing an implementation, check four things: whether it schedules the playlist you need, whether it exposes accurate title and artist metadata from the exact player in use, whether the display updates across transitions and restarts, and whether the broadcast setup suits your desired continuous operation. The VLC-to-OBS example addresses metadata display, but the cited sources do not certify a particular commercial playlist scheduler or any setup’s 24/7 uptime.

Check music rights and YouTube suitability

Before scheduling a track, confirm that you have the rights or permissions needed to use it in a YouTube livestream. A visible artist and title label does not grant music rights or prevent a copyright claim. Review YouTube’s current requirements for your content and use a copyright safety checklist as a planning aid. Do not treat a continuous playlist or repeated video as automatically eligible for every YouTube feature or monetization program; assess the applicable rules for your channel and content.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the priority is keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It does not go live from a camera, and the product description does not establish that it creates or updates a per-track title-and-artist overlay; arrange and verify that display separately if you need it.
