To take screenshots of Indian university admission websites automatically, use a browser script such as Playwright to open each public page, wait for its useful content, and save a timestamped image. Then use a scheduler—on your computer or a hosted workflow such as GitHub Actions—to run that script at the times you choose. Capture scope, readiness signals, schedule and retention should be set for each page; there is no universal admissions URL pattern or update cadence established for Indian universities.
Plan the pages and records you need
Start with the official admissions, notices or announcements pages you need to monitor. Record each exact URL and a short institution/page name in a configuration file. Relevant information may be on separate pages, so select targets individually rather than assuming one admissions landing page contains every notice.
Check the site’s published conditions and access instructions before scheduling captures. Keep this workflow to public pages; do not target private application content, include credentials or session files in a public repository, or attempt to bypass access controls. No university-specific access policy or common portal structure is established here, so check each site on its own terms.

Playwright can save screenshots to a path, capture the full page, or capture a particular page element. Pick the scope according to what you need to preserve; the documented patterns are in the Playwright screenshots guide.

For comparisons across dates, keep the viewport size and browser version consistent. This is an implementation recommendation, not a guarantee that university pages will remain visually identical between runs.
Build a Playwright capture script
The example below uses Node.js and Playwright. It captures a full-page image for each URL in a configuration list, waits for a page-specific selector, and gives each file a UTC timestamp. Replace the sample URL and selector with ones that match the public page you have checked. Use an element screenshot instead if only a notice container is relevant.
- Install Node.js and Playwright in a project directory:

});The sample uses domcontentloaded for navigation and then waits for the selected content. If a page’s relevant area has a more specific selector, use it instead of the broad main example. Playwright documents navigation states including load, domcontentloaded, networkidle and commit; its Page API marks networkidle as discouraged for testing and advises relying on assertions to assess readiness. A fixed sleep can be a fallback for a known page, but should not be treated as reliable across sites. See the Playwright Page API.

Capture only the relevant element
To save a specific notice list rather than a full page, replace the screenshot line with:
await page.locator('#notice-list').screenshot({ path: file });Use a selector that exists on the target page, and verify it before relying on scheduled runs. If the selector changes, the script will fail at the readiness step rather than silently capturing an unrelated region.
Schedule the script
Screenshot capture and scheduling are separate: Playwright renders and saves the page; a scheduler starts the script. A local scheduler is suitable when the machine can be on at run time. A hosted workflow can run without your personal computer being on, but requires workflow setup and a place to access and retain generated artifacts.

Use GitHub Actions for a hosted schedule
GitHub Actions scheduled workflows use POSIX cron. GitHub Docs says scheduled runs default to UTC, execute against the latest commit on the default branch, and support a minimum interval of once every five minutes. An IANA timezone can also be specified. These are platform scheduling details, not a recommendation to poll university pages that frequently. Check the GitHub Actions schedule documentation for the current syntax and behavior.
For example, a daily UTC run at 20:00 can be configured in .github/workflows/admission-captures.yml:

Use a local scheduler
On a machine you control, arrange for node capture.js to run at the desired times using its operating-system scheduler. The machine must be available, and its Node.js project dependencies must remain installed. Store captures in a directory that is backed up or otherwise accessible to the people who need them; decide how long to retain the files.
Set a proportionate cadence and keep useful records
A daily run may suit routine checking; during a time-sensitive admissions period you may choose another cadence. The right interval depends on the institution, the page and its published conditions. No common update frequency or permitted automated request rate for Indian university admissions pages is established, so do not assume one schedule fits all.
- Use filenames that identify both the page and capture time, such as
university-admissions-2026-10-03T20-00Z.png. - Keep a record of the exact URL, selector, viewport and schedule associated with each page.
- Retain the image files somewhere the intended readers can access, with a retention period suited to your purpose.
- Keep screenshots as visual records, not as a substitute for checking the current official page before acting on an admission deadline or requirement.
Troubleshoot failed or unhelpful captures
- The readiness wait times out: the selector may not exist, may have changed, or may appear only after another interaction. Inspect the public page, update the selector, and rerun the script manually.
- The screenshot is blank or incomplete: the page may not have rendered its useful content by the chosen readiness condition. Wait for a more meaningful page-specific element; avoid treating a fixed delay or
networkidleas universally reliable. - A full-page capture misses delayed content: check whether the page loads content only after scrolling or other interaction. Adjust the script for that page and verify the result before returning to scheduled runs.
- GitHub Actions does not run at the expected local time: the schedule defaults to UTC unless configured with an IANA timezone. Check the workflow schedule and the latest commit on the default branch.
- No artifact appears: review the workflow run logs for installation, navigation or screenshot errors; confirm the upload path matches the filenames the script creates.
- The site blocks or restricts access: stop and follow the site’s published access guidance. Do not try to evade a block or access control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the same selector and schedule for every university?
No. Choose and verify the URL, useful-content selector and cadence for each public page; no common Indian university page structure or update frequency is established.
Does a scheduled screenshot prove that an admission notice is still current?
No. It preserves a visual record from a capture time. Check the institution’s official page for the current notice before acting.
