To schedule screenshots of Indian university admission pages, either set up a hosted website monitor for each official schedule or notices page, or automate browser screenshots and run the capture script on a recurring schedule. First decide whether you need an image from every check or only an alert when a page changes. These are different workflows, and monitoring services may not retain a full screenshot archive for every run.
Start with the official admissions page
Monitor the university, institution, or centralized counselling authority that publishes the information. Admission schedules are cycle-specific and may be revised, so treat third-party summaries as pointers and verify any date against the live official portal.
Examples of official pages with 2026-cycle material include JoSAA, NIFT’s Admissions Schedule 2026, and GGSIPU’s schedule and notices portal. These are examples, not a complete directory; confirm that each URL is the relevant official page for your institution and admissions route. JoSAA describes its remit as joint seat allocation for 138 institutes for academic year 2026–27. That is not a count of all Indian universities.

Save a screenshot every time
Use this when you need a visual record at each scheduled time—for example, to keep an audit trail of a published timetable. Before choosing a service, verify that it saves an image from every run, how long it retains images, and whether you can export them. A monitor that sends change alerts may not provide an unconditional archive.

Alert only when the page changes
Use this when your main goal is to know that a schedule or notice has changed. A change monitor compares successive checks and can reduce the need to inspect unchanged pages. Confirm what counts as a change, whether you can monitor a specific region, and which notification channels are available.
Option 1: Use a hosted website monitor
A hosted monitor runs checks on the provider’s infrastructure. For example, Visualping documents scheduled cloud monitoring, visual comparisons, and alerts; its Help Center says cloud monitors continue when your browser or computer is off. That is the vendor’s description, not an independent performance test. Distill documents recurring interval and cron-style checks. Check each service’s current plan details for supported schedules, image history, retention, export, and alert behavior; available documentation does not establish a like-for-like comparison of those terms.

- Open the official university or counselling schedule, notices, or admissions page and copy its URL.
- Add the URL to the monitor. Choose the whole page or, if supported, select the schedule or notices area so unrelated page changes are less likely to trigger review.
- Set a recurring interval or schedule that suits your needs. If the tool supports specific run times, use them when you need predictable snapshots; verify the schedule options in that tool.
- Choose whether you want a screenshot each time, change comparisons, alerts, or a combination. Check retention and export settings if you need an archive.
- Choose available notification channels, then run an initial check and confirm that the monitor is watching the intended content.
- Revisit the setup when the admissions cycle changes or the institution moves its notices to a new page.
Option 2: Automate screenshots yourself
A DIY workflow needs both browser automation to load and capture the page and a separate scheduler to launch the script. Playwright documents screenshot capture and visual comparisons, but its screenshot documentation does not provide the recurring scheduler. You must also decide where screenshots and run logs will be stored, how long they are kept, and how failures are reported.

Capture and compare with Playwright
This Node.js example takes a full-page screenshot and compares it with a previous image. Install Playwright and its Chromium browser first with npm install playwright and npx playwright install chromium. Save the script below as capture.mjs; set PAGE_URL to the official admissions URL and run it with node capture.mjs. The first successful run saves a baseline; later runs save a new image and report whether the PNG differs byte-for-byte. A byte-level difference can reflect layout or rendering variation as well as a meaningful notice change, so review the image before treating it as an admissions update.

}Schedule the command using your operating system’s scheduler or a cloud scheduler. For example, a cron entry such as 0 8 * * * runs at 08:00 according to the scheduler host’s local time; check the host’s time zone and cron implementation. The example overwrites current.png and previous.png, so it is not an archive. Add timestamped filenames and a retention policy if you need an image for every run. Have the scheduler retain standard output and errors or send failures to an alert channel, and ensure the destination directory has enough storage and appropriate access controls.
Adjust the capture for dynamic pages
- If the schedule loads after the initial HTML, wait for a known heading or schedule element with Playwright’s locator wait methods before taking the screenshot.
- If the page uses lazy-loaded content, scroll through it before capture or use a page-specific strategy to make the required section visible.
- If the full page is too large, capture the schedule element rather than the entire page. Selectors vary by site; inspect the official page and use a stable CSS selector.
- If byte comparisons produce noisy changes, compare a cropped region or use a visual-diff workflow with an agreed tolerance. Playwright’s visual comparison facilities do not set up your schedule, storage, or alerting for you.
- If the site blocks automated browsing or requires a login, do not attempt to bypass access controls. Use the site’s permitted access method or rely on its official notifications.

- Confirm the monitored URL belongs to the relevant university or counselling authority, and check that it still points to the current admissions cycle.
- Make one test run and verify that the screenshot contains the actual schedule or notice, not a consent prompt, error page, or incomplete loading state.
- Check the scheduler’s time zone and run history, or the hosted monitor’s next-check time and notification settings.
- For an archive, confirm each run creates a retained image and that retention and export meet your needs.
- Keep a separate way to check the official portal; a screenshot monitor is not an official admissions notification or a guarantee that a change will be detected instantly.
Troubleshooting scheduled captures
The screenshot is blank or missing the schedule
The page may render its content after initial navigation, require scrolling to trigger lazy loading, or display a consent overlay. Wait for the relevant content before capture, scroll where necessary, and check whether the hosted service can handle the page’s consent or loading behavior. Verify the image itself after the first run.

The job runs but no alert arrives
Check that alerts are enabled for the monitored page, that the selected notification channel is configured, and that the change occurred in the monitored region. A service may retain or report changes differently from saving an image on every check; inspect its history and retention settings.
The DIY script fails before creating an image
Confirm Playwright and Chromium are installed in the same environment that runs the scheduled job, that PAGE_URL is set, and that the host can reach the page. Inspect the scheduler’s captured error output; a job often runs with a different working directory, environment, or permissions than an interactive shell.
Images change even though the schedule appears unchanged
Dynamic content, rotating banners, timestamps, fonts, or layout shifts can alter screenshots. Monitor a smaller schedule region where possible, wait for the relevant content to settle, and review the image rather than treating every pixel difference as a changed admissions date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I monitor a university page or a counselling portal?
Monitor the authority that publishes the schedule relevant to your application; some admissions information is institution-specific and some is issued by a centralized counselling authority.
Will a scheduled screenshot tell me immediately when a deadline changes?
No. It records or checks the page at configured times, so a change can occur between runs. Check the official portal for authoritative, current dates.
