Use an authorized, narrowly scoped browser workflow: capture only the page area needed, mask known customer-specific fields before saving the image, and secure the screenshot, logs, traces, and alerts as customer data. A mask is not proof that every sensitive detail has been removed. Because the insurer and portal are unspecified, confirm permission, portal terms, and your organization’s privacy and security requirements before automating access.
Start with authorization and a clear purpose
Before scheduling a capture, identify who operates the portal, which organization determines the purpose of the processing, whose account will be used, who may receive the image, and why a recurring screenshot is necessary. Confirm that the account owner authorizes access and that the portal’s terms and your organization’s policies permit automated sign-in and capture. If you cannot establish those boundaries, do not automate the portal; ask the portal owner or your organization’s privacy, security, or legal team for approval.
Insurance portal pages should be treated as potentially sensitive even when a particular page appears routine. IRDAI explains that insurance repositories maintain policy records electronically and let policyholders access policy details through an online portal: IRDAI insurers and repositories information. That does not establish what any unnamed insurer’s page displays.
Choose the least exposing way to get the record
Prefer a purpose-built report, a sanitized page, or a synthetic test account if one can meet the monitoring need. This avoids creating an unnecessary raw screenshot in the first place. If a browser capture is necessary, define precisely which visual element or viewport is needed and exclude unrelated policy, identity, contact, payment, or claim information.

Taking a raw screenshot and redacting it later is the least desirable option: it creates an unredacted artifact that may persist in memory, a temporary directory, a debug log, or a backup. If post-processing is unavoidable, tightly control the raw image and its lifecycle, and do not treat the redacted copy as proof that all copies were removed.
Build a conservative Playwright capture
Playwright’s Page API documents screenshots with locator masks and styles applied during capture. Its locator guidance supports selectors such as accessible roles, labels, text, placeholders, and test IDs. Those capabilities provide a way to mask known page elements before the screenshot is written, but they do not establish that Playwright is authorized or compatible with a particular insurer portal. Install and create a basic capture
The following is a template, not a portal-specific script. Use selectors verified against an approved account and page; replace the example URL and selectors only after confirming authorization. It writes a single viewport screenshot with known sensitive elements covered.

Replace them with selectors confirmed on the authorized page, and fail closed if the expected page or masking targets are missing. Do not silently capture an unmasked image after a selector error.

Make the selector and capture boundary explicit
- Prefer stable, semantic locators or a portal-supported test contract over fragile positional selectors such as “the third table cell.”
- Mask every known sensitive field that could appear in the chosen area, including customer-specific values that load after the initial render.
- If only one card, table, or status panel is needed, capture that locator rather than the entire page. Confirm that surrounding content, sticky headers, overlays, and nested frames do not reveal other data.
- Use screenshot styles only when they reliably hide a known element; test them against the live layout. A style rule or mask cannot identify sensitive content you have not accounted for.
- Avoid writing raw intermediate captures or retaining screenshot buffers in debug output. Disable or protect traces and other artifacts that may record page content.
Schedule and operate the capture safely
Use your organization’s approved scheduler or managed workflow rather than an ad hoc personal machine. Keep authentication secrets in the approved secret manager, give the job only the permissions it needs, and ensure failure notifications do not attach screenshots or customer data. The right scheduler, credential system, and deployment design depend on your organization and are not determined by Playwright’s screenshot API.
- Run the script first in an approved test environment or with a synthetic account where possible.
- Verify that a scheduled run reaches the intended page and that masking targets are present before permitting output.
- Set the recurrence and service identity in the approved scheduler, with restricted access to both the job and its stored outputs.
- Alert on missing selectors, session expiry, failed navigation, or unexpected page states without including the screenshot in the alert.
- Manually inspect representative captures before unattended operation and after portal redesigns or selector changes.
Protect screenshots and every related artifact
Handle the output as customer data even when known fields are masked. Store it only in an approved location, restrict access to named roles, use the organization’s approved protections for storage and transfer, and set a purpose-based retention period. Apply the same review to filenames, logs, traces, temporary files, backups, and notifications: each can expose identifying details or page content.

IRDAI’s published index lists Guidelines on Information and Cyber Security, dated 2 September 2022. The index establishes that the guidance is listed and its date; consult the underlying instrument and later updates for requirements that apply to your organization. An older IRDAI document discusses life insurers’ safeguards for privacy and unauthorized access, alteration, destruction, disclosure, or dissemination, but it should not be treated alone as the current rule for every insurer or workflow: IRDAI-hosted insurance document.
The Government of India Press Information Bureau reported on 17 November 2025 that the DPDP Rules, 2025 were notified on 14 November 2025: PIB summary of the DPDP Rules, 2025. Check the statutory text, commencement provisions, amendments, and applicability for the specific processing rather than treating a government summary as a legal determination. Confirm cross-border or vendor handling requirements for your actual environment.

Validate failure states before relying on the schedule
A successful screenshot call does not establish that the image contains the intended page or that masking succeeded. Review representative output, including error pages, empty states, session-expiry screens, changed layouts, and pages with content that loads after navigation. If a target selector disappears or a page structure changes, stop or fail the job rather than producing an apparently valid unmasked image.
Common problems and safe responses
