To create recurring dashboard screenshots, schedule a browser job to sign in, open a stable dashboard view, wait for the relevant content, capture the page, and save each run as a timestamped file in access-controlled storage. Use a managed option such as AWS CloudWatch Synthetics or build a scheduled Playwright job. Keep run logs and failure records alongside the images: a screenshot shows what automation rendered, but alone it does not prove the data is correct, the view is complete, or the image was unchanged afterward.

When AWS Audit Manager is relevant
AWS Audit Manager automatically collects and organizes evidence from sources such as CloudTrail, Security Hub, Config, and API calls, and can produce assessment reports. AWS documents configuration snapshots on daily, weekly, or monthly schedules; user activity evidence is captured when CloudTrail events occur, and compliance-check timing depends on the source service. Use these capabilities for applicable AWS control evidence, not as a substitute for rendering a third-party SaaS dashboard in a browser. AWS also documents a visual-monitoring blueprint that compares screenshots with a baseline. That can help flag visible changes, but a visual difference check does not verify the underlying data or establish that a screenshot meets an audit requirement. Define the evidence workflow before scheduling
Write down the operational details before building the job. A regular image without a defined view, timestamp, owner, and failure path is difficult to interpret later.
- Target: record the dashboard URL and the specific view, filters, date range, and account or tenant to capture.
- Cadence and time zone: choose the schedule that corresponds to the control or review need, and name the time zone explicitly.
- Authentication: use a dedicated least-privilege account or a supported authentication integration. Do not expose credentials in screenshots or broadly accessible logs.
- Readiness condition: wait for a stable selector or other meaningful indication that the required dashboard content loaded; a page load alone may not mean charts or data finished rendering.
- Destination and naming: save each capture to access-controlled storage with a predictable name, for example
finance-dashboard-2026-10-04T090000Z.png. Use UTC or clearly encode the selected time zone. - Retention and permissions: set a retention period intentionally and restrict read, write, and deletion access to appropriate roles.

Build a scheduled browser capture with AWS CloudWatch Synthetics
CloudWatch Synthetics is a managed route when your team uses AWS and is prepared to implement the browser steps in a canary. AWS documents scheduled scripts and browser access through Node.js and Python runtimes, using Playwright, Puppeteer, or Selenium; canaries can save UI screenshots as artifacts. Follow AWS’s current canary setup documentation for the supported runtime and framework, then implement the dashboard-specific workflow.
- Create a canary using a browser-capable runtime and framework supported by your selected AWS configuration.
- Configure its execution schedule, region, permissions, and artifact destination according to your organization’s AWS controls.
- Provide credentials through an approved secrets mechanism available in your environment; avoid hard-coding passwords or tokens into the script.
- Navigate to the dashboard, authenticate, select the required view, and wait for a content-specific readiness condition.
- Capture the relevant viewport or full page, and preserve the run timestamp, outcome, and diagnostic artifacts.
- Send failure notifications to the responsible operator and periodically review both successful images and failed runs.
Do not assume a scheduled run is a successful evidence capture just because the browser task executed: an expired session, access-denied screen, loading skeleton, or stale dashboard may still produce an image. Check the resulting artifact and execution status.

Use a custom scheduled browser job when you need direct control
A custom browser job is a good fit if you need to own the authentication flow, browser steps, output location, and failure policy. The following Playwright example is a capture routine to place inside your scheduler or job runner; it does not itself create a recurring schedule. Replace the sample login selectors and readiness selector with ones from the actual dashboard. A dashboard that uses single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, CAPTCHA, or a changing login flow may need a supported integration or a different approved method; do not attempt to bypass access controls. Configure your scheduler to invoke the script at the desired cadence, preserve stdout/stderr and exit status, and upload the image and run record to controlled storage.

Make each run retrievable and reviewable
Keep the image with enough context to interpret its origin and status. A screenshot is a record of a rendered view, not by itself proof that the view was complete, that its values were correct, or that the file was not altered after capture.
