To schedule a YouTube livestream for a future start, create the event in YouTube Studio, then send its feed from OBS using the event’s stream URL and stream key. To repeat a jingle during that stream, add the audio as an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop; for several jingles, use a VLC Video source with a playlist and enable Loop Playlist.
Those loop controls repeat a file or playlist—they do not schedule short jingles to play at exact intervals over a separate, uninterrupted music bed. YouTube event scheduling and jingle playback are separate tasks.
Schedule the YouTube livestream
- Open the event scheduler. In YouTube Studio, select Go live, open Manage, and choose Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings. A scheduled event can appear to viewers in advance so they can find it and opt into reminders. See YouTube’s encoder-stream setup instructions.
- Set the event details. Enter the event information and its intended start time. Check the selected visibility and other event settings before saving. Scheduling makes the event available ahead of time; it does not start OBS or play jingles for you.
- Get the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s stream settings. The key identifies where the encoder sends its feed and authorizes YouTube to accept it. YouTube calls stream keys “like your YouTube stream’s password and address,” so keep yours private. If it is compromised, YouTube documents resetting it in Live Control Room in its live stream settings guidance.
Repeat one jingle with an OBS Media Source
- In OBS, open the scene that should contain the jingle and add a Media Source.
- Select the local audio file. OBS documents support for formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV.
- Enable Loop if the file should start again after playback finishes. OBS describes this control as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed.
- Check the source’s audio level and listen to it in the OBS mixer. Keep the jingle at a sensible level relative to any other audio sources in the scene.
This setup repeats that one file. It does not insert the jingle over another continuous audio source at chosen clock times.
Rotate jingles with an OBS playlist
- Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS’s VLC Video source requires it.
- Add a VLC Video source to the relevant OBS scene and create a playlist from the files you want to play.
- Arrange the files in the desired sequence. Leave shuffle disabled when the station needs a fixed order.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the source after it reaches the end of the list.
OBS documents VLC playlist looping and source-visibility behavior in its Media Sources guide. Check the visibility behavior that suits your scenes: a source can behave differently when its scene is hidden, which matters if playback should continue across scene changes. A playlist loops its items; it is not a timed cue system.

Looping is not interval-based jingle scheduling
A single-file loop repeats one file, and a playlist loop repeats a sequence. The OBS controls documented here do not establish a way to trigger each jingle at a specific interval while separate music continues uninterrupted. For a requirement such as “play a station ID every 15 minutes over the music bed,” use a separately verified scheduling or automation method; do not treat the Loop checkbox as a timer.
| What you need | OBS method | What it does and its limit |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one jingle | Media Source with Loop | Repeats the selected file after it ends; it does not establish playlist scheduling. |
| Cycle through several jingles | VLC Video source with a playlist and Loop Playlist | Plays and repeats a list; requires VLC, and sequence or shuffle behavior must be chosen. |
| Insert jingles at exact intervals over continuous audio | Not established by the documented controls above | Requires a separately verified cue scheduler or automation workflow. |
Connect OBS and start the event
- Before the scheduled start, open the event in YouTube Live Control Room and confirm OBS is connected to its stream URL and key.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check YouTube’s incoming preview to confirm the expected picture and audio arrive.
- When the preview is ready, click Go live in Live Control Room. Connecting the encoder and making the event public are distinct steps.
- During the broadcast, monitor stream health and audio/video quality. YouTube recommends advance setup, testing with audio and video similar to the real stream, previewing, and monitoring; see its live streaming tips.
Test the jingle and protect the broadcast
- Test the complete scene. Use a private or unlisted test event as appropriate, and listen for the jingle in the YouTube preview—not only in the OBS mixer.
- Check levels and transitions. Confirm the jingle is audible without overpowering the music or clipping, and verify that switching scenes does not interrupt playback unexpectedly.
- Use audio you are allowed to stream. A locally stored file, a jingle label, or a “royalty-free” description does not by itself establish permission. Confirm the license covers livestream use and any archived replay.
- Plan for interruptions. Testing and monitoring can help reveal issues, but the cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not establish restart or failover guarantees for an always-on broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings, StreamNeo runs the stream in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
