Scheduling a YouTube Live event does not make sermons play by itself. You must schedule the event in YouTube Studio, then connect a playback tool or hosted service to send the prerecorded sermons to YouTube as the live feed. For a genuinely continuous playlist, also plan how it will loop, recover from interruptions, and handle YouTube’s archive limits.
Choose what “continuous” means for your church
A scheduled service and an always-on channel are different setups. For a single service, schedule one event, play the sermons in order, then end the broadcast. For an ongoing feed, arrange for the playlist to repeat or run continuously and decide how to manage stream interruptions and archives. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not assume one 24/7 event will remain an indefinitely archived video. Choose how the prerecorded playlist will reach YouTube
YouTube provides the event page and receives the live feed; a separate encoder or service plays and transmits the videos. The right option depends on whether your church can leave a computer and network connection running, whether you need advance scheduling, and who will monitor playback.

Prepare the sermon files and playlist
- Set the sequence. Put the sermons in the order you want viewers to hear them. Decide whether the service should repeat from the beginning or end after the closing item.
- Review every file. Play each recording through and check that its audio and video work, levels are consistent, and opening and closing transitions do not cut off important content.
- Prepare viewer-facing material. Add title cards, captions, or other materials as appropriate. Check that each included element is cleared for the intended livestream and any archived replay.
- Confirm playback behavior. Verify how your selected tool handles the end of a file, the end of the playlist, looping, and interruptions. Do not assume YouTube Studio itself will repeat a scheduled playlist.
Enable Live and schedule the YouTube event
- Allow time for first-time activation. If the channel has never streamed live, YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the scheduling workflow. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream.
- Create or reuse event settings. Choose a new stream or reuse settings, then set the title, description, thumbnail, visibility, date and time, and audience details for this service.
- Share the scheduled watch page. Give the event URL to your congregation so viewers can find it and opt into reminders.
- Review start and stop behavior. Check the event’s stream settings, including any auto-start or auto-stop options. Do not assume copied settings are right for a new service.
YouTube documents the Studio scheduling process and the need to connect an encoder for the actual feed in its live-streaming instructions.
Connect the playback tool and test the feed
- Copy the stream destination and key. In Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and key for the event, then enter them in your encoder or hosted service. YouTube describes the key as the information that lets the encoder send content to the channel; keep it private.
- Update any changed key. If you reset the stream key, replace the old key in the encoder or service before the next broadcast.
- Start a test feed in time. Start the playlist early enough to inspect the incoming preview and confirm that both picture and audio arrive as expected.
- Start the scheduled broadcast. When the event is ready, use the Live Control Room controls as required by its configuration. YouTube’s documented workflow includes waiting for the incoming preview before manually starting a scheduled event.
Run a short service or a 24/7 feed
For one scheduled service
Have someone monitor the feed, play the service in order, and end the broadcast deliberately after the final sermon and closing slate. That makes the end of the event clear to viewers and the church team.

For a repeating or continuous feed
Before relying on it unattended, confirm the chosen tool’s behavior when the playlist ends, when the network or YouTube connection drops, and when playback resumes. Assign someone to check the encoder or service and the YouTube event rather than treating a scheduled watch page as proof that media is being transmitted.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That makes a truly continuous feed different from one short scheduled service: decide how your church will manage continuity and recordings instead of assuming a single 24/7 broadcast will be archived indefinitely. Check rights before you schedule a sermon replay
The church is responsible for having the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing. Review every element in the recording: sermon and guest contributions, worship performances, backing tracks, lyrics, photographs, video clips, and graphics. Confirm that the rights cover the intended YouTube livestream, any archived replay, and the relevant territories and terms.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A matched stream may be replaced with a placeholder, and continued use of the material can lead to interruption or termination. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube advises that a rights holder can add a channel to its Content ID allowlist. Claims on an archived live stream may also appear after the broadcast ends. Confirm coverage and allowlisting with the rights administrator; do not assume a worship license automatically clears YouTube Content ID. Read YouTube’s live-stream terms.

Troubleshoot common setup problems
