To promote a festival sale on an always-on YouTube Live channel, schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then choose where the promo belongs: a scheduled-stream trailer appears before the event, while a video shown during a continuous stream must be added to the encoder or playout system’s live output. YouTube’s scheduling tools do not document a built-in way to schedule your own promo into the middle of an already-running stream.
Choose where the festival promo should appear
| Placement | What viewers see | What you need to do |
|---|---|---|
| Before the scheduled event | A trailer on the scheduled stream’s watch page before the live event starts. | Set an eligible video as the scheduled stream’s trailer in YouTube Studio. |
| During the continuous program | Your sale creative becomes part of the live video viewers are watching. | Configure the encoder or playout system to put the promo into its outgoing feed, then test the transitions. |
| Between streams | Viewers are sent to a Premiere or another live stream after the current stream ends. | Use Live Redirect if the channel and destination meet YouTube’s eligibility conditions. |
A YouTube mid-roll ad is different from your own festival-sale video: it is a platform ad on an eligible monetized stream, not a way to schedule your creative. YouTube documents manual insertion in Live Control Room and an option through its Stream Deck plugin. YouTube’s live-ad guidance explains the ad controls.
Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Go Live, then open Manage.
- Select Schedule Stream. Reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new stream.
- Enter the event details, including title, description, visibility, thumbnail, date and time.
- Save the scheduled stream and share its upcoming watch page. Viewers can use that page to find the event and may receive reminders.
- In your encoder or playout system, use the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key to connect the outgoing feed. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion; treat the stream key like a password.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the Studio and connection workflow, and its encoder settings guidance for stream settings.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

A scheduled-stream trailer plays on the watch page before the event begins; it does not interrupt or replace the output of an already-running 24/7 program. YouTube’s current requirements state that trailers must be 15 seconds to 3 minutes long, and the channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Check eligibility and rights before assigning a sale video as a trailer. Details are in YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Put a promo inside an always-on stream
For an in-program promotion, the promo must be included in the video feed sent by your encoder or playout system. The exact playlist, scene, or scheduling control depends on that system; YouTube’s scheduling instructions explain how to connect an encoder, not how to schedule a creator’s own midstream clip.
- Prepare the promo in the format your encoder or playout system accepts. Check that its aspect ratio, picture and audio suit the rest of your program.
- Add it as an outgoing source in the encoder or playout workflow. Decide how it enters and exits—for example, whether it plays between playlist items or replaces the normal program temporarily. The available control depends on your chosen system.
- Connect that outgoing feed to the scheduled YouTube event using its server URL and stream key.
- Run a test of the whole sequence: normal program, promo start, promo end, and return to the normal feed. Check audio levels, aspect ratio and the feed shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview.
- During the event, monitor stream health and the actual audio and video output. Do not assume a configured transition worked until you have verified it.
Preflight and operate the broadcast
- YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least 2 hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the event.
- Use Live Control Room preview to confirm YouTube is receiving the intended feed before the event begins.
- Monitor stream health and audio/video quality during operation, including around the promo transition.
- Plan an archive separately for long broadcasts: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee a complete archive of a longer continuous program.
- YouTube’s operational guidance does not guarantee 24/7 uptime. Keep an eye on the live output and have a recovery plan appropriate to your encoder or playout setup.
These are YouTube’s stated setup recommendations and archive guidance, not guarantees of uninterrupted operation. See YouTube live streaming tips and its live archive guidance.

Keep sale content and channel compliance in view
Use video, music, logos and other creative only when you have the rights needed for the stream. A test should also confirm that the sale message is legible on the watch page and that the audio does not overpower the program. YouTube’s trailer eligibility rules include the channel’s Community Guidelines standing, but meeting those conditions does not establish that every piece of creative is cleared for use.
