To play different prerecorded videos one after another on a continuous YouTube livestream, schedule the YouTube broadcast and separately provide a playlist through an encoder or hosted streaming service. Scheduling an event in YouTube Studio sets up the broadcast; it does not queue multiple video files for playback.

Choose where the playlist will run

Your videos must be played by something that sends one continuous video feed to YouTube. The main choice is whether playback and encoding happen on your computer or in a hosted service.

Factor Local encoder Hosted playlist service
Where playback and stream generation run Your computer and encoder The provider’s hosted service
Playlist handling Configure and maintain it locally Select or upload videos and schedule them through the provider’s workflow
Duration Depends on YouTube and your local setup; confirm current limits and archive behavior Provider-specific. OneStream Live currently states a maximum of 30 days for its 24-hour feature.
Operational responsibility You keep the setup running and monitor it. The provider runs the hosted workflow; verify its monitoring, interruption handling, and recovery features.
Cost and terms Hardware, software, and network costs may apply. Plan, eligibility, and usage terms vary; check them with the provider.
Ingestion Use encoder-supported YouTube settings. Confirm the provider’s protocol and YouTube compatibility.

These are decision factors, not guarantees of uninterrupted operation. OneStream Live’s help page, last updated September 3, 2026, describes its 24-hour playlist feature as an Enterprise feature with a maximum duration of 30 days; these are that provider’s terms, not YouTube-wide rules. See OneStream Live’s 24/7 scheduling instructions for its current workflow and check the terms before relying on it.

Before you schedule: check channel access and video rights

Confirm you can livestream

YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Check YouTube’s getting-started guidance for current account requirements and setup options.

Review every video and its audio

Make sure you have the rights or permissions needed to stream every video, including its music, images, and other included material. A sequence of prerecorded clips is still a livestream for YouTube policy purposes. Do not assume that owning a copy of a video gives you permission to broadcast it, or that a long-running stream is exempt from copyright rules. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies before scheduling.

Decide the audience and visibility

Choose whether the broadcast should be public, unlisted, or private using the current YouTube Studio controls. If you are using a hosted provider, confirm that its workflow supports the visibility and event settings you need.

Option 1: run the playlist from your computer

A local encoder sends the playlist output to YouTube. OBS is one possible encoder, but its exact playlist setup can depend on the current version and workflow. The OBS help portal provides streaming support, but the documentation available here does not establish specific playlist button names or steps, so consult the current OBS Project Help Portal rather than relying on guessed controls.

  1. Prepare and test the sequence. Put the videos in the intended order in your chosen local playback workflow. Check that each file plays, transitions as intended, and has usable audio. Keep the computer powered and prevent sleep for the planned run.
  2. Create or configure the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, use the current Live Control Room to set up or schedule the event and select its visibility. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream in advance.
  3. Connect the encoder. In the Live Control Room, use the current stream connection details to connect the encoder. Treat the stream key as a secret: do not share it or include it in screenshots or public instructions. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Check the preview before starting. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended picture and sound, and verify the event’s visibility and start time. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring audio and video quality.
  5. Keep the run observable. Monitor the broadcast and the local playback setup. A test run can reveal incorrect ordering, silent clips, or a connection problem before you depend on the setup for a long session.

YouTube’s live streaming tips cover encoder setup, advance preparation, preview, and monitoring. YouTube Studio manages the broadcast and connection; your encoder or playback workflow supplies the changing video content.

Option 2: schedule a hosted playlist

OneStream Live

OneStream Live’s published workflow describes selecting videos from a device, its own storage, or cloud storage; connecting a YouTube channel; entering stream details; and scheduling the 24-hour broadcast. Its help page currently says the feature requires Enterprise and allows a stream of up to 30 days. Confirm eligibility, limits, and current plan terms with OneStream Live before building a schedule around them.

Other hosted services

Looping Stream describes building a playlist for continuous YouTube broadcasts using cloud streaming. Its service page does not establish enough detail to compare plan limits, monitoring, failover, or terms, so verify those points directly before choosing it.

Hosted-service preflight

  • Confirm that the plan supports your intended schedule length and that your account is eligible.
  • Check that the provider supports YouTube and the visibility and stream settings you need.
  • Verify the playlist order, audio, and video preview before the scheduled start.
  • Ask how the provider reports interruptions and what recovery behavior, if any, is included.
  • Keep access to your YouTube account and stream settings; do not expose the stream key.

HLS is a protocol-specific case

The following requirements apply only if your encoder or service uses HLS ingestion. They are not universal settings for every YouTube livestream. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments rather than as a continuous stream. Its documented HLS requirements include:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Segments between 1 and 4 seconds long, in TS format.
  • No byte-range support.
  • A rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments.
  • HTTPS POST/PUT requests.
  • Encryption only over HTTPS.

Check YouTube’s HLS setup requirements and your provider’s instructions before configuring this protocol.

What the YouTube Live Streaming API does—and does not do

The YouTube Live Streaming API can schedule and manage broadcast and stream resources. It is useful to developers automating broadcast management, but its reference does not establish a ready-made playlist player or consumer scheduler for separate video files. You still need a playback and streaming workflow that sends the playlist as the live feed.

Preflight checklist for a continuous broadcast

  • The channel meets YouTube’s current livestream eligibility requirements.
  • You have the rights needed for all video and audio in the playlist.
  • The videos are in the intended order, with transitions and sound checked.
  • The broadcast visibility, event details, and start time are correct.
  • The encoder or hosted service is connected and the YouTube preview looks and sounds right.
  • You have a way to monitor the run and a plan for handling interruptions.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you would rather not keep a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo hosts a YouTube stream that loops uploaded videos or a playlist. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer can be off while the cloud stream runs. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; the first day is free with no card.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video playback to YouTube, not camera livestreaming. Start with the free first day on StreamNeo.
