In Wowza Video, open a live stream’s details page and use Schedules to set a one-time or recurring start and stop. To monitor a broadcast, check Stream Health on that stream’s details page; use analytics afterward for audience and delivery reporting. Wowza Streaming Cloud is the former name for Wowza Video, so the steps below use the current product name and documentation.
Schedule a stream in Wowza Video
You can add schedules when creating a live stream or later from its details page. The live stream details page documentation describes three schedule patterns: a start and stop at set times, only a start or only a stop, and a recurring schedule.
Set a one-time schedule
- Open the existing live stream’s live stream details page.
- Select Schedules. This tab shows schedules set up during stream creation and lets you add more.
- Choose a one-time start and stop, or a one-time start or stop, depending on what you need.
- Set the intended Time zone in the schedule form. Do not assume the operator’s or audience’s local time zone is the one you want.
- Enter the date and time, then save the schedule. Check the saved schedule against the event’s intended local time before relying on it.
Set a recurring schedule
- On the stream details page, open Schedules and add a recurring schedule.
- Choose the days of the week on which it should repeat.
- Set when the recurrence takes effect and when it ends, then save it.
Use a recurring schedule for a regular program; choose a one-time schedule for a single event. Verify the selected days, start and end dates, and time zone as a group, especially when a program crosses midnight or its local time changes seasonally.
Use “Go live later” for a future start
Wowza also describes a simpler future-start workflow called Go live later: schedule the stream to start on a future day and time. See Live stream in Wowza Video for that workflow. This is distinct from configuring a full recurring schedule.

Automate schedules with the API
For scripted operation, the Wowza Video REST API reference documents schedules that start and/or stop a live stream or transcoder once or repeatedly. The API includes operations to create, list or retrieve, update, enable, disable, inspect state, and delete schedules. Use the API reference for request details and authentication requirements rather than relying on legacy interface instructions.
Monitor an active broadcast
Open the live stream details page and use its real-time preview, statistics, and Stream Health view. Wowza’s current details-page documentation says its metrics refresh every 10 seconds. Stream Health graphs source-connection and transcoding information, including actual inbound bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and frame size.

Read the health indicators
- Connection: Shows whether Wowza is receiving the source. If the source is not connected, check that the encoder is sending to the right stream and that it is running.
- Inbound bitrate: The measured incoming rate, which can differ from the bitrate configured in the encoder.
- Frame rate and frame size: Show the video characteristics Wowza is receiving, useful for spotting an unexpected change in the incoming feed.
- Keyframe interval: Shows the interval observed in the incoming video stream.
- Transcoding and delivery statistics: Provide context on processing and delivery beyond whether the source has connected.
These indicators describe what Wowza is receiving and processing; they are not a guarantee that every brief interruption will appear in a graph.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCheck multiple active streams
Wowza’s Monitor page documentation describes an account-level view for up to three active streams, with inbound connection status, actual inbound bitrate, frame size, frame rate, keyframe interval, unique-viewer counts, and links to individual health views. That page is marked legacy, so confirm the current navigation and labels in your account before following it click by click. The legacy documentation also says updates pause while the page is out of focus and resume when it regains focus.

Review a stream after it ends
Inspect historical Stream Health sessions
On the stream details page, select a health session by its start time and duration; you can narrow the selection by date and time. Wowza’s current documentation says sessions for a given stream are visible for the last 90 days. Review inbound bitrate, frame rate, keyframe interval, and frame size to investigate source or processing behavior. These graphs are diagnostic records, not a complete record of every short glitch.
Use analytics for audience and delivery context
Stream Health answers questions about the source and processing; analytics focuses on audience and delivery. Wowza’s current analytics documentation lists viewer, device, rendition, country, and popularity information, and describes CSV export. It says the analytics page auto-updates every 60 seconds. Its unique-viewer counts depend on identifiers such as IP address and user agent, so do not assume that “unique viewers” means the same thing across different products or reports.

Choose the right scheduling and monitoring method
| Need | Use | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| One event with a planned start and end | One-time schedule in Schedules | One-time start and stop, with a schedule time zone. |
| Start or stop at a planned time, but not both | One-time start-only or stop-only schedule | A single scheduled action; set the intended time zone. |
| A program that repeats on selected weekdays | Recurring schedule | Selected days and recurrence start and end. |
| A future start without a recurring pattern | Go live later | A scheduled start on a future day and time. |
| Scripted or application-managed operation | REST API schedules | One-time or recurring start/stop scheduling and schedule lifecycle operations. |
| Live source and processing diagnosis | Stream Health | Connection and incoming video metrics. |
| Audience and delivery reporting | Analytics | Viewer, device, rendition, country, popularity, and CSV export information. |
Troubleshoot scheduling and monitoring
The stream did not start when expected
- Reopen Schedules on the stream details page and verify the saved date, time, selected time zone, and schedule pattern.
- For a recurring schedule, check that the intended weekday is selected and that the recurrence is active on the event date.
- If you used Go live later, confirm you scheduled a future start rather than expecting it to define a recurring program.
- For API-managed schedules, inspect the schedule state and confirm that the intended operation was created and enabled.
The source is not connected or the incoming video looks wrong
- Check the encoder or camera output and its connection to the intended Wowza live stream.
- Use the Stream Health connection and inbound metrics to distinguish a missing source from an incoming feed whose bitrate, frame rate, frame size, or keyframe interval differs from expectations.
- Remember that actual inbound bitrate is measured and can differ from the encoder’s configured bitrate.
A brief interruption is not visible in the graph
Do not treat the absence of a visible spike or gap as proof that no interruption occurred. Wowza’s legacy health guidance warns that short irregularities might not register between refreshes. Use the health view as diagnostic evidence, and consider other operational records when investigating a very brief event.

The Monitor page appears stale
The legacy Monitor documentation says updates pause while the page is not in focus. Return focus to the page and check whether the display resumes updating; for current per-stream information, open that stream’s details page and health view.
