A YouTube playlist does not become a livestream when you schedule it. To broadcast prerecorded playlist content as a live event, schedule a livestream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and send it an encoder feed. First choose the right YouTube workflow, then verify the holiday date for your intended audience and year before promoting the event.
Choose the right YouTube workflow
“Playlist stream” can mean several different things. A playlist is a collection of videos; a scheduled upload, a Premiere, and an encoder-fed livestream are separate YouTube workflows. YouTube’s playlist help describes creating and managing a collection, not scheduling that collection as a livestream (YouTube playlist help).
- Scheduled video: Schedule one uploaded video for publication at a chosen date and time. YouTube notes that a scheduled video’s watch-page publication date is based on Pacific Standard Time, so it can differ from the date shown in Studio for schedules made ahead of PST (Schedule video publication).
- Premiere: Set a new uploaded video to premiere later. YouTube creates a public watch page in advance where viewers can set reminders and chat. After the Premiere, the video remains a regular upload; this is a shared release of one video, not a continuous playlist livestream (Premiere a new video).
- Scheduled livestream: Create a live event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and connect an encoder using the stream URL and stream key. This is the relevant workflow when you want prerecorded content sent as a live feed (Schedule a live stream).
If viewers should watch one video together at a set time, use a Premiere. If you want a live event carrying a feed of prerecorded material, schedule a livestream and provide that feed through an encoder.

There is no single holiday date that applies to every Indian viewer or organization. Confirm the date against an authoritative calendar for the intended year and audience, and check whether the relevant state, employer, school, or institution observes it. Do not assume a national holiday list covers every audience.

YouTube for Artists identifies holidays as one possible occasion to livestream and recommends maintaining a consistent schedule, but it does not identify a best holiday or best hour for Indian viewers (YouTube for Artists). Choose a time based on your audience and state it clearly in promotions.
Before saving the event, check the date and time displayed in Studio. The cited YouTube documentation does not specify the time-zone behavior of the Live Control Room scheduling field. For events near midnight or for audiences across time zones, include the time zone in announcements and verify the resulting calendar date rather than relying on an assumed conversion.

Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, start the livestream creation flow and choose Manage, then Schedule Stream. The scheduling flow is documented in YouTube’s live-stream scheduling help.
- Enter and review event details: Set the title, visibility, audience setting, date, and time. Confirm the displayed date and time before saving. Use the date verified for the particular holiday and audience rather than a generic calendar assumption.
- Connect an encoder: Retrieve the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room and enter them in your encoder. Treat the stream key as a credential: YouTube describes it as information that tells the encoder where to send the feed (YouTube live-stream setup). Do not share it publicly.
- Send and inspect the feed: Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Rehearse before the holiday event; YouTube recommends testing the setup and checking the preview (YouTube live-streaming tips).
- Share the event page: Once scheduled, share its watch page ahead of time so viewers can find it and use available reminders. Include the date, start time, and time zone in your announcement.
- At the event time: Start the encoder and use the Live Control Room preview and go-live controls as prompted. Confirm that the feed is visible before announcing that the event is underway.
Prepare prerecorded content responsibly
Scheduling an event does not itself provide the video feed: the encoder must send the content to YouTube. Check that every video in the planned sequence is suitable for livestreaming and that you have the necessary rights to use its audio and visuals. YouTube’s tools can identify or restrict copyrighted material, and permission to upload a video does not necessarily establish permission to rebroadcast it as a live event.

Also make the event’s nature clear to viewers. A scheduled livestream is a live broadcast workflow even when its feed consists of prerecorded material; do not imply that a host or performance will be live if it is not. For channel-specific policy questions, review YouTube’s current rules and the notices shown in Studio before the event.

Troubleshoot before viewers arrive
- The playlist is not appearing as a live broadcast: A playlist is a collection, not a scheduled livestream feed. Schedule a Live Control Room event and connect an encoder for the prerecorded-content approach.
- The event shows no picture or audio: Check that the encoder is running, the correct event’s stream URL and key are configured, and the feed appears in Live Control Room preview. Rehearse ahead of time rather than troubleshooting at the scheduled start.
- The key does not connect: Recheck that the encoder is using the stream key associated with the scheduled event. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, manage the stream credentials in YouTube Studio before sending the feed.
- The event date appears different from the promotion: Check the date and time shown in Studio and the time zone stated in your announcement. Do not carry over the scheduled-upload PST note to a livestream; the cited Live Control Room guidance does not establish the scheduling field’s time-zone semantics.
- Viewers cannot find the event: Confirm the event’s visibility and share the scheduled watch page, not just a playlist link. A Premiere has its own advance watch page and reminder flow, while a playlist is only a collection.
