To show lessons as a scheduled YouTube livestream, create a live event in YouTube Studio and send it a video feed from OBS Studio. OBS’s VLC Video source can play local lesson files in order and loop them; scheduling the YouTube event alone does not turn a channel playlist into a sequence of livestreams. Check that the date and time displayed in Studio match your school’s intended local timetable before saving.

Understand what you are scheduling

YouTube Studio schedules the viewer-facing live event and watch page. Your encoder—here, OBS Studio—sends the actual video and audio. OBS’s VLC Video source can play a list of local files in sequence, with an option to loop. These are separate jobs: the scheduled event is not a queue that automatically plays items from a YouTube channel playlist.

YouTube describes each broadcast as representing one YouTube video in its Live Streaming API. This workflow uses OBS to feed one scheduled event from your local lesson files. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide, the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation, and the OBS guide to Media Sources.

Prepare the channel and lesson files

Confirm live streaming is available

Before planning the first class, verify the channel and confirm it has no livestream restriction. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no livestream restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of the lesson. Check YouTube’s live streaming eligibility guidance.

Arrange and test the media

  1. Put the authorized lesson video files in the intended teaching order in a folder you can locate easily.
  2. Install VLC if needed; OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source.
  3. In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the local files to its playlist. Arrange the listed files in the desired order.
  4. Choose sequential playback rather than shuffle. Enable looping only if the school timetable requires the sequence to start again after the final file.
  5. Preview the source and confirm picture, sound, and transitions before connecting it to a scheduled class.

The OBS VLC Video source documentation covers local media playback controls. It does not establish that this source imports a YouTube channel playlist as a playback queue.

Create the scheduled YouTube Live event

  1. Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream.
  2. Create a new stream or reuse prior settings. Enter a clear class title and set the audience and privacy details for the intended viewers.
  3. Set the intended date and start time. Compare the date and time displayed in Studio with the school’s intended local time in India before saving. Then check the resulting event page to confirm it shows the expected time.
  4. Save the event and share its watch-page link with students or families. Viewers may see it as upcoming and opt in to a reminder.

YouTube’s documentation establishes scheduled start and end times, but does not settle every current Studio timezone control or confirm a recurring school timetable feature. Verify the displayed date and time for each event rather than assuming a recurring schedule will handle school bells. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Connect OBS to the event and run a preflight

  1. In the event’s Live Control Room, get the stream connection details. In OBS, configure the YouTube service and enter the stream URL and stream key as prompted. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it or show it in a recording.
  2. Make sure OBS is sending the scene that contains your VLC Video source. The event supplies the live page; OBS supplies the lesson feed.
  3. Allow time for setup: YouTube advises encoder users to set up at least two hours before an event and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
  4. Start OBS and check the Live Control Room preview before class. Confirm the event is reachable from the channel and watch pages, then test speech and other audio, picture, and motion.
  5. Check stream health and network capacity. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. For example, if the outgoing stream uses 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity under the same conditions.
  6. Monitor the stream during the lesson. Do not assume that a scheduled event starts the encoder or that the playlist will begin at the right moment without a successful feed.

These are YouTube’s published operational recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection or setup will work. Consult YouTube live streaming tips and Streaming tips for setup and stream-health guidance.

Choose access settings and protect lesson content

Set the event to public, unlisted, or private according to who should be able to watch, then test access using the event page before class. An unlisted link can be forwarded; it is not a substitute for a controlled sign-in process. Make sure you have the rights or permissions needed to stream each lesson file, including any music, images, or other third-party material. YouTube’s live streaming eligibility and setup rules apply to the channel; do not assume that scheduling an event clears content rights.

End the stream and keep a dependable copy

Stop the encoder after the lesson or final session, and keep the source lesson files or a local recording if replay matters. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Its archive guidance recommends keeping a local backup: Archive live streams.

Livestream versus scheduled video publication

Scheduling an uploaded video to publish at a chosen time is a different workflow from scheduling a live broadcast and feeding it through OBS. A scheduled upload is published video, not an ongoing livestream with a live feed. See Schedule video publish time.

Common problems and fixes

  • The channel cannot go live: Check verification and any current livestream restrictions. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
  • The event page is up, but no lesson appears: Confirm OBS is connected with the correct stream key, the intended scene is active, and the VLC source is playing. The event schedule does not start OBS for you.
  • The wrong lesson plays or the list repeats unexpectedly: Review the VLC Video source file order, shuffle setting, and loop setting, then preview the complete sequence.
  • The event appears at the wrong time: Compare the date and time displayed in Studio with the school’s intended local timetable, and inspect the saved event page. Do not rely on an assumed timezone or recurring schedule.
  • Video or audio stutters: Check OBS’s stream-health indications and available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom beyond total stream bitrate; also test audio and motion before class.
  • Viewers cannot access the event: Confirm its privacy setting and test the watch-page link from an account or device appropriate to the intended audience.
  • No archive appears: Check the stream duration and archive settings. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured, which is why a local copy is prudent.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded lesson videos, StreamNeo runs the playback in the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Every quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as uploaded at one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. This is an alternative for uploaded-video playback, not camera streaming or a school-bell scheduler. Start your free day.
