You can schedule a YouTube livestream for a holiday, but YouTube Studio does not schedule a regular playlist as the live broadcast feed. Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or compatible playout system to send the video feed. If you only want an uploaded video to become public at a set time, use YouTube’s separate video-scheduling feature instead.
What YouTube schedules—and what it does not
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos. A scheduled livestream is an event with a watch page and a live feed supplied by an encoder or other supported streaming setup. YouTube’s playlist and live-streaming guides describe these as separate workflows, so do not assume that choosing a playlist in Studio will make its videos play sequentially as a live broadcast.
For a prerecorded holiday program, you need both parts: a scheduled event for viewers to find and a system that supplies the playlist-style video feed at the right time. YouTube’s live-streaming API likewise represents broadcasts and streams as distinct resources; it does not establish that an ordinary channel playlist itself is a live feed. Choose how the prerecorded videos will reach YouTube

YouTube’s encoder documentation lists supported encoder approaches and includes AJA HELO Plus hardware. It describes PlayToStream as a way to schedule prerecorded media for streaming directly to YouTube Live. This is an optional specialist example, not a requirement for scheduling an ordinary live event. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide for its current information.

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go Live → Manage.
- Select SCHEDULE STREAM. Choose to reuse previous stream settings or create a new stream.
- Enter the event details, including its title, description, visibility, date, and start time. Check the displayed time zone and confirm the intended local time for your audience.
- Save the scheduled event. Use its watch-page URL when promoting the broadcast.
- In your encoder or playout system, configure the YouTube stream URL and stream key as required by that setup. Keep the key private. Confirm that the selected system will supply the intended prerecorded sequence and that its feed is ready for the event.
- Before the holiday, verify the event page, start time, stream configuration, and the playout system’s own scheduling and monitoring instructions. Do not treat a scheduled event page as proof that a video feed will start by itself.
YouTube documents the Studio path and encoder connection process in its Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder guide. The exact controls for sequencing prerecorded files depend on the encoder or playout product you choose.
Promote the watch page and plan around the audience
YouTube says a scheduled stream may appear in subscribers’ feeds as upcoming, where viewers can choose “Notify me.” Share the watch-page link early so interested viewers can find the event and opt into a reminder. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance describes this upcoming status.

- Choose a start time that suits the audience you intend to reach, and state the time zone in promotional posts.
- Introduce the livestream schedule in advance. YouTube’s creator guidance recommends considering notable local or global holidays and communicating schedule changes. See Upload schedule tips — Live.
- If the time, program, or event link changes, update the event information where possible and communicate the change through the same channels used to promote it.
- Check a current official government calendar for the dates and observances relevant to your audience, including any state or regional holidays. The historical broadcast examples below are not a complete or current holiday calendar.
Indian holiday examples: useful precedent, not a current calendar
Government releases document holiday programming on YouTube for two major national observances. The Press Information Bureau reported that Doordarshan’s Republic Day coverage began at 9:15 AM on January 26, 2022, and was available on its YouTube channels; the release included a playlist link. Do not confuse a livestream with a scheduled video
If you want one uploaded video to become public at a specified date and time, YouTube offers a separate scheduled-publication workflow for a private video. That publishes a video; it does not create a live event with a live feed. YouTube’s Schedule video publish time guide covers that feature.
