You can schedule a YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio, then connect XSplit Broadcaster to that event and start sending its encoder feed. Scheduling the event does not by itself schedule a local prerecorded file to play: these are separate steps, and the XSplit instructions cited here do not establish the current controls for adding or looping a file. If you only want an uploaded video to become public at a chosen time, use YouTube’s scheduled publishing instead.
Choose between a scheduled livestream and a scheduled video
| What you want | Use | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| An appointment-style event with a livestream and live chat | Schedule a livestream in YouTube Studio, then send an encoder feed from XSplit | XSplit supplies the live feed; the scheduled event is not the same as scheduled playback of a local file. |
| A finished video to become public later | Schedule the uploaded video’s publication in YouTube Studio | YouTube publishes the uploaded video at the date and time you choose; no XSplit encoder livestream is needed. |
Use the first route when viewers should arrive for a live-event experience. Use the second when the video is complete and only needs to go public later. YouTube documents the scheduled publishing workflow separately from encoder-based livestreaming (YouTube Help: schedule video publishing).
Check channel eligibility before scheduling
- Your channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, according to XSplit Support and YouTube Help.
- If you are enabling YouTube Live for the first time, XSplit says approval may take up to 24 hours. Enable it well before the event rather than leaving activation until broadcast day.
- XSplit’s YouTube Live article was updated October 11, 2025. Its scheduled-stream setup article is dated November 8, 2022, so labels may change; confirm the current interface if a control has moved (XSplit Support: scheduled stream setup).
Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule Stream.
- Enter the event details, configure customization and visibility, and set the date and time.
- Finish the setup and reach the stream setup page. Keep this event available; you will select it from XSplit’s event list.
Connect XSplit Broadcaster to the scheduled event
- In XSplit Broadcaster, open Broadcast and choose the existing YouTube Live output.
- In Broadcast Details, select the event you created in YouTube Studio from Live Event List. The event information should populate the dialog.
- Check the Manual Transition setting before starting. When it is checked—the documented default—starting the XSplit broadcast sends the encoder feed but does not itself make the YouTube event live. Open YouTube Studio and click Go Live when you are ready.
- If Manual Transition is unchecked, starting the XSplit broadcast automatically starts the YouTube stream. Choose this only if you want XSplit’s start action to trigger the event without a separate Studio confirmation.
- Click Start Broadcast in XSplit. If Manual Transition is checked, verify the preview in YouTube Studio and select Go Live to begin the event.
The documented workflow explains creating the event and connecting XSplit’s encoder output; it does not specify the current detailed Broadcaster controls for inserting, configuring, or looping a local prerecorded file. Do not assume choosing an event makes a file play automatically. Consult current XSplit media-source guidance for those file controls, and test playback separately before relying on it.
Prepare and test before the scheduled start
- YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours ahead of the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees of connection time.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. Confirm that the stream is accessible and check audio and video quality.
- If you are new to live streaming, run a test livestream first. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary; use the equipment available to you (YouTube Help: live-streaming tips).
- Decide in advance whether you want the extra manual Go Live confirmation or automatic event start via XSplit’s Manual Transition option.
Troubleshoot the most likely scheduling problems
The scheduled event does not appear in XSplit
Confirm that you created the event in YouTube Studio first and that XSplit is using the intended YouTube Live output/account. Reopen Broadcast Details and check Live Event List. The supported workflow depends on selecting an existing scheduled event.

XSplit is broadcasting, but viewers cannot see the event live
If Manual Transition is checked, this is expected until you click Go Live in YouTube Studio. Check the Live Control Room preview, then use that control when ready. If Manual Transition is unchecked, starting XSplit is documented to start the event automatically.
You cannot enable YouTube Live in time
Check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the last 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable the feature earlier and confirm access before scheduling an event.

The event is scheduled, but the prerecorded video does not play
Event scheduling and media playback are distinct. The documented event workflow does not establish how to add or loop a file in the current XSplit interface. Verify the media-source setup in current XSplit documentation and test the file as part of the encoder feed before the event.
The stream is not ready at the event time
Use YouTube’s recommended lead times: set up the encoder at least two hours ahead, start it at least 15 minutes before the event, and check the preview and audio/video quality before going live.
