Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then put its watch-page link in a Google Calendar event so you and your collaborators know when to prepare. Calendar helps coordinate the event; it does not schedule or start the YouTube livestream. YouTube playlists organize recordings and highlights after a broadcast, rather than scheduling a playlist as a livestream.

What “schedule a livestream playlist” means

There are three separate tasks that can sound like one:

  • Schedule the livestream: Create an upcoming stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. YouTube schedules an individual stream.
  • Coordinate the time: Add the stream’s watch URL, start time and production details to a Google Calendar event.
  • Organize videos: After the broadcast, place its archive and any highlight clips in a YouTube playlist if useful.

A Calendar event does not create the broadcast, notify your YouTube audience, or automatically start streaming. Viewers can use YouTube’s “Notify me” option on an upcoming stream. YouTube’s livestream setup instructions and Google Calendar’s conferencing instructions describe separate workflows.

Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio

  1. Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage. Choose the option to schedule a stream. YouTube’s interface labels may change; consult its current encoder setup instructions if the wording differs.
  2. Set up the stream. Choose whether to reuse applicable stream settings, enter the stream details, and set the date and time. Save the scheduled stream.
  3. Copy the watch-page URL. This is the link viewers will use to find the upcoming broadcast. Scheduling lets you promote the stream in advance; viewers may also be able to select “Notify me” on its YouTube page.
  4. Prepare the broadcast route. YouTube supports streaming with a webcam or with an encoder. The webcam route asks you to choose a webcam and microphone. The encoder route uses a stream URL and key. Use the route that fits your setup; a webcam is not required for encoder streaming.
  5. At the scheduled time, start the stream yourself. Open the scheduled broadcast in Live Control Room and begin the chosen webcam or encoder workflow. For encoder streaming, start the encoder so it sends the stream. The scheduled Calendar event does not trigger the broadcast.

Add the scheduled stream to Google Calendar

  1. Create a Calendar event for the agreed production or broadcast start time.
  2. Put the YouTube watch-page URL in the event description or location field, so collaborators can open it easily.
  3. Invite the people who need the timing or link, and add a reminder that suits your production schedule.
  4. If the team also needs a separate planning call, add Google Meet or another supported conferencing option through Calendar’s conferencing controls. That conference link is separate from the YouTube livestream URL.

This is a practical coordination use of Calendar, not a YouTube integration: putting the stream link in an event does not send YouTube notifications to viewers. For audience reminders, share the stream URL in advance and direct viewers to YouTube’s own “Notify me” option. YouTube recommends sharing the livestream link at least 48 hours before going live; see its livestream promotion guidance.

Choose a webcam or encoder workflow

Route What it involves Best fit
Webcam Select a webcam and microphone in YouTube’s webcam workflow. A creator who wants to broadcast through the webcam interface.
Encoder Configure an encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, then start it at airtime. A creator who already uses a separate encoder workflow.

YouTube documents both approaches, but the available guidance does not establish a general capability comparison among encoder products. Follow the setup instructions for the route you choose, and keep the stream key private.

Share the stream, then organize its recordings

Share the watch URL with viewers ahead of time; YouTube recommends doing so at least 48 hours before the livestream. The upcoming stream page may offer viewers a “Notify me” control. A Calendar invitation is for your collaborators and should not be treated as a substitute for sharing the YouTube link with your audience.

Once the broadcast has ended, YouTube’s guidance describes organizing livestream archives and highlight clips into playlists. This is a way to group published videos for viewers; it is distinct from scheduling a livestream, and the documented workflow does not schedule a playlist as a broadcast. See YouTube’s promotion guidance.

Optional: redirect viewers after the broadcast

YouTube Live Redirect can send viewers after a stream to a Premiere or another livestream. It is not part of scheduling through Calendar. Redirecting viewers to another channel requires that channel’s permission, and the feature has eligibility requirements. Check YouTube’s Live Redirect requirements before planning around it.
