YouTube does not document a built-in control for scheduling a playlist to play continuously as a 24/7 livestream. Playlist order, a video’s scheduled publication, and scheduling a livestream are separate features. You can set up a future live event in YouTube Studio, but YouTube’s encoder workflow still requires a feed to be sent and the stream to be started at broadcast time.
There is one related feature: YouTube says episodes in a Show are ordered by publish date by default. That is not an automatic upload-date sort for a conventional playlist, nor does it turn the playlist into a continuous live broadcast.
What YouTube lets you schedule—and what it does not
Three different controls are easy to confuse:
- Playlist order determines the sequence in which playlist videos appear.
- Scheduled publishing makes one private video public at a chosen date and time.
- Scheduled livestreams let you plan a live event, but the documented encoder workflow requires connecting a feed and starting the stream when it is time to broadcast.
None of these documented controls schedules a playlist itself to play around the clock. YouTube’s Series playlist guidance describes organizing videos into a series, while its live-streaming guidance describes scheduling and launching a live event; neither establishes a built-in 24/7 playlist scheduler. Does YouTube sort playlist videos by upload date?
Keep upload date and publish date distinct. YouTube’s guidance for Shows says episodes are ordered by publish date by default. If the playlist has a manually specified order, episode numbering follows that order instead. This describes episode ordering for a Show; it does not establish an automatic upload-date sorting control for an ordinary playlist or continuous playback of playlist entries.

If the exact sequence matters, verify the playlist’s actual order rather than assuming that uploading a video later will move it into a particular position. YouTube’s Show guidance also describes editing season or episode numbers in Studio. YouTube Help: Create shows from your videos
Schedule a future YouTube livestream
This route schedules a live event, not an unattended playlist. At the scheduled time, the encoder must send a live feed and you must start the stream in Live Control Room.

- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Open Manage, then select Schedule stream.
- Create a new stream, or reuse settings from an earlier stream.
- At broadcast time, configure your encoder with the stream URL and stream key, then connect it and send the feed.
- Start the stream in Live Control Room. When finished, end the stream there and stop sending the feed.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive behavior is not a way to make a scheduled playlist continue broadcasting indefinitely. Check YouTube’s current instructions if interface labels have changed: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Schedule one video to become public later
To publish an individual video at a future time, use YouTube Studio’s upload flow and its Schedule card. Choose the publication date, time, and time zone. This controls when that video becomes public; it does not schedule a playlist to play or a livestream to begin.

YouTube notes that the watch-page publication date is based on Pacific Standard Time, so the date shown on the watch page can differ from the date shown in Studio for viewers or creators in other time zones. YouTube Help: Schedule video publish time
For continuous playback, use a live-stream workflow
If you need pre-recorded videos to appear as a continuous YouTube live broadcast, playlist ordering and scheduled publishing do not provide that outcome. You need a live feed that continues playing the videos and sends them to YouTube. YouTube’s documented route uses an encoder connected with a stream URL and key; its instructions do not identify a specific third-party service or hardware as required.

Before broadcasting, make sure you have rights to the video and audio you plan to use and that your stream follows YouTube’s applicable policies. A playlist being public or correctly ordered does not itself establish permission to rebroadcast its contents.

Troubleshoot the mismatch
- A scheduled video did not start a livestream: scheduled publishing makes an individual video public; it does not start a live event. Schedule a stream separately and connect an encoder at broadcast time.
- The playlist is not in upload-date order: Show episodes default to publish-date order, not necessarily upload-date order. Manual playlist ordering takes precedence for Show episode numbering.
- The watch-page date differs from Studio: YouTube bases the watch-page publication date on Pacific Standard Time, which can produce a different calendar date in another time zone.
- The scheduled stream is not live: scheduling the event alone is not the encoder feed. Connect using the stream URL and key, send the feed, and start the broadcast in Live Control Room.
