You can schedule a YouTube livestream in YouTube Studio, but YouTube’s scheduling controls do not establish a native feature for switching music playlists by time of day. To run a channel with separate day and night selections, schedule the live event in YouTube Studio and configure your playback or encoder system to change playlists at the times you choose. Test the playlist change separately from the YouTube event.
What YouTube schedules—and what it does not
A scheduled livestream creates an upcoming event and watch page that you can share; viewers may also opt in to receive a reminder. The scheduled event controls when the broadcast is presented on YouTube. They should not be mistaken for a day/night music scheduler: YouTube’s documented stream settings cover livestream controls, not clock-based playlist changes. YouTube’s scheduling guidance and stream settings documentation describe the event and stream workflow.
The playlist change belongs in the playback setup that feeds the stream. Prepare separate daytime and nighttime selections, then configure that system to change between them at the intended local times and time zone. The exact controls depend on the playback or encoder software you choose; verify its documentation before relying on unattended automation.
Prepare the channel, music, and schedule
Confirm the channel can livestream
Check that your channel meets YouTube’s current account requirements for live streaming before building the event. Use the correct channel and decide the event’s title, visibility, description, and scheduled start time. Set up well in advance so account or event issues do not collide with launch.

Organize the day and night selections
- Create distinct daytime and nighttime music selections in the playback system.
- Choose the changeover times and the time zone that governs them. Account for daylight-saving changes if your schedule follows a location that observes them.
- Test the transition while monitoring the outgoing stream: confirm that the new selection starts when expected, that audio remains audible, and that the change does not halt the encoder output.
- Decide how the system behaves at the next changeover and after a restart. A schedule that works only while a particular app session remains open is not a dependable unattended plan.
YouTube’s event scheduler does not substitute for these playback rules. Do not assume that creating two YouTube playlists, or scheduling an event, will switch the music feed on a clock.
Clear music rights for the actual use
Before going live, verify that your music rights cover livestream use, the archive, relevant territories, and commercial use if applicable. YouTube’s livestream terms require the streamer to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. See YouTube’s livestream terms.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects such content, it may show a placeholder or warn you to stop using it; the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated if the issue persists. Even when you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright.

YouTube says Creator Music does not currently support licensing for live content. Its safe-music guidance points creators to the Audio Library, original music, or third-party music only after checking the applicable license terms. A license for an ordinary upload should not be presumed to cover a livestream or its archive. See the Creator Music FAQ and YouTube’s safe-music guidance.

Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then open Manage.
- Create the upcoming stream. Choose Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream, then confirm the channel, title, visibility, description, and scheduled time.
- Review the watch page. Once created, use the upcoming event page to share the stream and let viewers set a reminder if that option is available.
- Keep the event separate from playlist automation. Configure the day/night change in your playback system, not by assuming the YouTube event will select music for you.
For the current YouTube Studio flow, see YouTube’s instructions for scheduling a livestream.
Connect the playback system and go live
- Copy the stream URL and key. Find them in Live Control Room and enter them in the encoder or streaming system that will send the music output to YouTube. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the encoder early. YouTube advises setting up at least two hours before a livestream and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event. These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees of a successful broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Check the preview. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Confirm that the intended audio is playing and that the event details are correct.
- Start the YouTube broadcast. When the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room if you are not using an applicable auto-start workflow.
- Observe the playlist change. During a full test, verify the transition at the scheduled time and check the stream on the watch page and channel page, including on mobile.
YouTube recommends testing encoder failover, checking accessibility of the watch page, and continuously monitoring audio and video. See YouTube’s livestream preparation guidance.

Plan for continuous operation and archives
A 24/7 channel is an operating plan, not a guarantee that one YouTube broadcast can run forever without interruption. YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not establish that a single nominal 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete 24-hour replay. Plan for stream restarts or interruptions, and decide how you will bring the event back online and verify playback after a failure. See YouTube’s stream archive guidance.
Before launch, test the whole chain rather than just the event setup:

YouTube supports software encoders and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but that does not establish that a particular encoder is best for continuous music playback. Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel playing uploaded recordings around the clock, StreamNeo is the first service to consider: it runs from the cloud, accepts video at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers one free day without a card. To set it up, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. You do not need to keep a computer or home connection running, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only.
The first day is free with no card; the free day is one per account. The monthly plan is $9.99 per month. The same product is included on each plan; only the billing period changes. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free day.
