To schedule a nature-video playlist for YouTube Live, schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, then use a playback source and encoder to send the videos to it at the scheduled time. Scheduling creates the event and its watch page; it does not play a YouTube playlist as a live feed by itself.

Understand what is being scheduled

YouTube treats the broadcast and the incoming stream as separate things. A broadcast is the event viewers watch; a stream is the audio and video feed sent to YouTube. Scheduling the broadcast can create a shareable watch page, let viewers request reminders, and help you promote the event, but a playback source still has to feed the nature videos through an encoder. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a broadcast as an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.

That means adding videos to an ordinary YouTube playlist is not enough: you need a playback tool that can play those files in order and provide its output to the encoder.

Prepare the nature-video playlist

  1. Choose the files and order. Put the footage in the sequence you want viewers to see. Check each file’s playback and audio, and confirm the playback tool can advance from one item to the next or loop the list if needed.
  2. Confirm the playback-to-encoder connection. Determine how the selected software or hardware encoder will receive the playback output. Do a test before the event so you can catch unsupported media, missing audio, or a connection problem.
  3. Check your rights. Use video, music, and other audio you own or are licensed to use for a YouTube live stream. A nature scene does not make a soundtrack or footage copyright-free. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules apply to live broadcasts as well as uploaded videos; permission to use material and eligibility to monetize are separate questions.
  4. Plan the run time. Add up the playlist duration and decide whether it should end, repeat, or continue with another sequence. Make sure the playback tool’s behavior matches your plan.

Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
  2. Open Manage, then choose Schedule stream.
  3. Enter the event details, including its title, planned date and time, and privacy settings. Review the watch page as it will appear to viewers.
  4. Share the scheduled event URL if you want to promote the stream. Viewers can use the event page and request a reminder.
  5. In the Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key for the event. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.

YouTube’s live-stream scheduling instructions describe the current Studio workflow. Interface labels and available start behavior can change, so check the controls shown for your account before airtime.

Choose how to play and send the videos

Route What it involves What to check
Computer with a software encoder A playback tool plays the files, and software such as OBS sends the output to YouTube. The computer, playback, encoder, and internet connection need to remain available for the stream. Verify that the playback source advances or loops as intended and that the encoder receives both video and audio.
AJA HELO Plus hardware encoder YouTube lists the HELO Plus as a verified encoder. AJA’s optional PlayToStream feature supports scheduling and streaming prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. PlayToStream is an optional, separately licensed feature, not something to assume is included. Confirm licensing, compatible media and storage, connections, and current cost before buying. AJA specifies streaming up to 1080p60; this is a product capability, not an independent performance test.
StreamNeo cloud service StreamNeo keeps an uploaded-video YouTube stream running from the cloud, so a home computer does not have to stay on. It is the #1 option for a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube stream when you want cloud playback, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and a free first day. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube, not a live camera feed. Review its storage and plan details before starting.

The YouTube verified encoders information lists compatible encoder options. AJA’s HELO Plus product page describes its prerecorded playback and streaming features. AJA is one hardware route, not a required purchase.

Connect the encoder and start the scheduled stream

  1. In the encoder, enter the YouTube server URL and the event’s stream key. Use the values shown in Live Control Room rather than a key copied from an unrelated event.
  2. Set up the encoder to receive the playback output, then start the nature-video playlist in the intended order.
  3. At the scheduled time, start sending the feed from the encoder. Check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and confirm that picture and sound are correct.
  4. Follow the event’s start behavior in YouTube Studio. Depending on the broadcast settings, you may need to select Go live after the preview appears; do not assume that scheduling the event automatically starts every encoder or broadcast.
  5. Monitor the stream and the playlist during the event. Confirm that the footage advances as expected and that the feed remains connected.

YouTube’s stream setup guidance covers the Studio workflow. OBS’s YouTube streaming guide includes additional scheduled-broadcast and auto-start/auto-stop context, but it was last updated October 8, 2021; check the current OBS and YouTube interfaces rather than relying on older labels.

End the stream and check the archive

  1. When the playlist is finished, end the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed according to your setup.
  2. Check the channel after the event to confirm whether the stream archive is available and looks as expected.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that this applies to a stream lasting 12 hours or longer.

Troubleshoot common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to do
The scheduled page exists, but no video appears. The broadcast is scheduled, but the encoder is not sending a feed, or the playback output is not connected to it. Start the playback source and encoder, confirm the server URL and stream key for this event, and wait for the preview in Live Control Room.
The preview appears, but the event has not started. The broadcast may require a manual start. Check Live Control Room for the Go live control and follow the start behavior configured for the event.
The stream starts, but the playlist stops between videos. The playback tool may not be set to advance automatically, or a file may not play correctly. Test the complete sequence beforehand; check the playlist’s advance or loop settings and each file’s compatibility.
Viewers see video without sound, or sound without video. The playback-to-encoder connection or encoder audio/video input may be incomplete. Check the source routing and encoder preview before going live, then confirm both picture and audio reach Live Control Room.
The stream disconnects during the event. The computer, playback source, encoder, or network connection may have stopped or lost connectivity. Check which part of the chain failed, restore it, and verify the incoming preview before resuming. A scheduled event alone cannot keep a disconnected feed running.
The stream ends but no archive is visible. The stream may have lasted 12 hours or more, or the archive may not yet be available. Check the event in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want prerecorded nature videos to keep playing without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs the YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos, not camera footage.
